Update Galaxy Xcover 2 S7710 to Android 4.1.2 XXAMC1 Firmware
It’s not difficult to install Android 4.1.2 on your Galaxy Xcover 2 S7710. You can do it by using XXAMC1 official firmware as described in this tutorial.
The update will be performed if you follow some steps. But first, some info about the XXAMC1. This firmware was launched in March this year (same as the phone) for these regions: Austria (A1) and Luxembourg.
Its features are the following: sync and connect email updates, all share, automatic adjustment for the size of widgets, pop up play, a fixed frame of 60 fps, extended Vsync timing, mini apps, touch anticipation and free style widget, Google Now, a new keyboard, group cast and triple buffering.
Since only the Luxembourg version comes with KIES logo activated, you will be able to update your handset to Android 4.1.2 using the KIES software if you prefer that over our guide. For Austria and Poland, we recommend using one of these methods: our tutorial or OTA (over the air).
If your Galaxy Xcover 2 GT-S7710 was rooted previously, the upgrade will take its root access away and delete the system partition. Thankfully, your smartphone’s important data and internal/external SD cards will not be damaged. You should check the model of your phone and, if it’s not the Galaxy Xcover 2 S7710 we wrote this guide for, don’t use the steps in this post; you will brick your device if you do that.
Requirements
To make sure everything goes as it should, we recommend you these requirements before you can learn how to update your handset:
- if the battery of your handset is empty, fully charge it;
- your PC or laptop should only feature Windows as its operating system;
- make a normal backup (the guide is here) and after that a full NANDroid backup, via these instructions;
- disable, on your smartphone and laptop, the devices’ security programs;
- USB Debugging must be turned on;
- find USB drivers compatible with your Galaxy Xcover 2 GT-S7710 and download them on the notebook.
How to flash XXAMC1 on your smartphone
- Every single step of a guide teaching you how to update a smartphone should feature this very important action: download the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXAMC1 official firmware (the Austria A1 version and the Luxembourg version ) and Odin from this location on the laptop. When the both files are saved on the notebook, you need to extract them.
- Now do the following: boot the smartphone in Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power simultaneously, then press Volume Up as soon as you see the logo of Android on the display.
- Open the Odin as Admin on the laptop next, then grab the USB cord that comes with the smartphone. Use this cable to establish a connection between the handset and the laptop. When a yellow ID:COM box and an “Added!!” message are displayed, you will know that the connection was established successfully, so move on to the next part of our guide.
- In case the devices aren’t plugged to one another, you need to use a different USB port; or flash the USB drivers again on your laptop or comp. The time has come to tap PDA, opt for a file with CODE in the name, after which you should tap Phone, opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC, choose a file that should have a CSC in its name, tap PIT and choose a file with a .pit extension.
- After you follow those guidelines, you should check these boxes: Re-partition, F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. Tapping “Start” will be your next priority, then make sure you wait for the XXAMC1 custom firmware to be flashed on the phone.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]After the Galaxy Xcover 2 S7710 reboots on its own, it is going to display “Pass” in a very short while. In other words: you are now finally able to unplug the handset from your laptop. To have a look at the new firmware, the best way to find it is by clicking on Settings and then tapping About Phone.
If you’ve gave it a spin and you think it’s not that great, the NANDroid backup file you created earlier will help restore the previous ROM on your handset.
