How to Update Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 WiFi SM-T230 to Android 4.4.2 XXU0AND2

You’ve got nothing to lose if you upgrade Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 WiFi SM-T230 to Android 4.4.2. The things you will get in exchange of this procedure are all noteworthy. So make sure you grab this update by taking a peek at our guide!

The only way to own an updated tablet is via a certain type of firmware that fits only your model. In our case, XXU0AND2. This was launched in April for the Nordic countries and it should be flashed on the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 SM-T230, not on another version. If you don’t respect this and upgrade a different tablet, you will damage it.

Since the new firmware does not offer the possibility to use KIES for the procedure, you should choose one of these options instead: OTA or this guide. If you prefer the OTA over our tutorial, do it only if the gadget is pre-equipped with stock ROM. Also, do note that a rooted tablet will get into trouble. Its system partition will be deleted; then root access will no longer be available. Internal and external SD cards won’t run into issues. The tablet’s important data will not be damaged by the upgrade, either.

Some of the new things you’ll get used to after the installation of the XXU0AND2 are new features and tweaks to customize the tablet. The latter will also dwell with new apps.Galaxy-Tab-4-7.0-WiFi-SM-T230

Prerequisites

When you want to get on with the guide, you have to first consider the requirements below:

  • the upgrade will happen only if your laptop’s operating system is Windows;
  • the security programs that are on your tablet now need to be deactivated;
  • the ones running on the laptop must go through the same process;
  • take care of the tablet’s data by creating a backup (or more);
  • a full NANDroid backup should also be considered;
  • charge the tablet’s battery;
  • download, on the laptop, USB drivers that are 100% compatible with the tablet;
  • don’t forget to turn, on the tablet, its USB Debugging on.

Step by step instructions

  1. Here is how you need to start the tutorial: download Odin v3.09 from this page and the on the notebook you own. The packages will then have to go through an unzipping phase; use, for this, WinZip or 7Zip.
  2. The content of the Odin v3.09 is made of various files, Odin v3.09.exe being one of them. This is the file which needs to be launched on your laptop.
  3. If done, you will be asked to do this: enter the Samsung SM-T230 in Download Mode. There needs to be some pressing and holding of buttons here, more exactly these: Home, Power and Volume Down; remember to press and hold them at the same time. There’s more to booting a device in the Download Mode: you have to use those buttons until a boot message pops up. Press Volume Up as soon as this appears.
  4. The tablet and your notebook have to enter a plugging phase. Create a connection between them with the USB cable used by your tablet. Odin will very soon display a sign in blue when the plugging is done.
  5. After you complete this step, do as follows: first, add the firmware file to AP / PDA, then activate F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. Once they are checked, you need to look at Re-partition and uncheck it.
  6. Now comes the easiest part: tap “Start“. After this option is clicked on, the upgrade is free to begin. When the flashing of the new firmware is over, you will notice something happening to your tablet.
  7. First, a message reading “Pass” in a green background will show up on the screen. After this happens, the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 Wi-Fi SM-T230 is going to restart.
  8. If the end of the rebooting is near, prepare to remove the USB cable from the devices so that they can be unplugged from one another.
  9. [sc name=”banner-jos”]After the two aren’t close to each other, do this: tap Settings and choose About Tablet. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat XXU0AND2 will then appear and you will be allowed to make it go through some testings.

If you’re not happy with this novelty, you’ll need the help of the NANDroid backup file. This will make the restoration of the former ROM a piece of cake. But it will also revoke the upgrade process.
