Update Galaxy Mega 6.3 GT-I9208 to Android 4.2.2 ZMUAMG1 Official Firmware

We picked Galaxy Mega 6.3 I9208 from Samsung to apply an update to. Especially since there are many people from China who want to know how to get a taste of Android 4.2.2. And they will do just that, because ZMUAMG1 is the new official firmware that will bring the update file on your handset.

Samsung released their Galaxy Mega 6.3 GT-I9208 this year in August. Even so, this smartphone is still sought after and the choice of many smartphone lovers. The Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ZMUAMG1 firmware saw a release few days after that, which comes just in time. With our guide, you will be able to try it out very soon.

This tutorial is also recommended to those who don’t or can’t locate updates via an OTA (with the Software Update button under Settings menu) or the KIES method. But you can make use of the Samsung KIES and make a search for the necessary update on your own. That will, however, only work for gadgets which already run stock ROMs.

The firmware featured in this tutorial is going to revoke root access should your smartphone already be rooted. The firmware won’t delete any important file from your device. In case the smartphone is rooted and has a custom ROM, you will be able to update it. But the system partition shall be wiped at the end of this procedure. The internal and external SD cards will not be affected.

Requirements

Let’s proceed to the requirements necessary for all the update tutorials out there:

  • provide your laptop with USB drivers that are compatible with your phone;
  • uninstall or disable, on your notebook and handset, the security programs (but enable them back on when you’re done with the update);
  • make backups (a regular + a full NANDroid one, via this guide);
  • your notebook must run Windows;
  • keep the USB cable of your handset close to you;
  • turn on USB Debugging;

Instructions

  1. On to what you should do so that you can install the new firmware on your phone. Two crucial files must be download on your laptop and then saved on its desktop. Their names: Odin tool 3.07 from this location and the new official firmware, from .
  2. Now extract each of them on the same laptop and, when done, enter your Galaxy Mega 6.3 in Download Mode by applying these steps: press and hold Home, Power and Volume Down at the exact same time; you will see Android’s logo come on the display, so press Power.
  3. Move on by connecting your GT-I9208 to the laptop via the former’s USB cord. When “Added!!” along with an ID:COM box in yellow appear, the connection will have been established; if not, you have to re-install the USB drivers or use another USB port. But if the plugging did not run into problems, you need to click on PDA, opt for a file with CODE in the name, tap Phone and opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC and choose a CSC file, tap PIT and choose a file with this extension in the name: .pit.
  4. [sc name=”banner-jos”]Now activate the following 3 boxes: F. Reset Time, Auto Reboot and Re-partition. After that, the installation of the update firmware can begin, so tap “Start” and wait a couple of minuted for the flashing to end.
  5. Which will happen when there’s a “Pass” message and the handset restarts. Once that happens, you should unplug the devices from one another. Then enter Settings, go to About Phone and the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ZMUAMG1 official firmware will be there!

In case you don’t like the new official firmware and you already created a NANDroid backup, you can revoke the upgrade process by using the backup file that resulted from it.
