Sharp starts producing 5-inch 1080p displays for Android phones

We will, one day, see new displays for smartphones and tablets made by Sharp.

The company recently made it known that they are going to start work soon on displays that will be 5″. The resolution of these touchscreens will be 1080p; more specifically 1920 x 1080 pixels. The iPhone 5, for instance, comes with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. The pixel density of the new Sharp display will be 443ppi. The one on Apple’s newest smartphone is 326ppi.

This should give you an idea of how important Sharp’s decision is. If the resolution of smartphones remains 720p, content will not look as good as it does when there’s a display of 1080p. The manufacturer himself said that this kind of touchscreen Sharp will premiere soon offers many pros to a smartphone. For example, images and other types of content are going to boast excellent clarity, brightness and other attributes.

The device that will sport such novelties are, according to the company behind them, mainly smartphones. However it’s not excluded that the 5″ 1080p display will also land on tablets and phablets, too, one of these days.

Speaking of “days”, nothing is certain. This touchscreen may appear this year or the next one. Either way, it will make waves in the industry. Many specialists, though, have already asked themselves if there will be much change once the display comes out, considering that the pixel density and the resolution don’t look like a whole lot compared to what’s on smartphones now. We’ll just have to wait and judge for ourselves if Sharp were inspired in their decision or not.

Alas, Sharp is not unique with their plans. Other manufacturers are already hot on their heels. And we are talking about names such as HTC and LG. While the South Korean manufacturer is said to work on a full-HD display, the Taiwanese team seems, from rumors, to work on something called One X5. This should be a hybrid of sorts.

The Sharp team is known to offer various manufacturers different types of panels for their gadgets. So far, this company did not announce their exact plans, like what smartphones the 5″ 1080p display will be featured on.

Until we find out from Sharp themselves, we can only tell you that they are going to present the world with the new panel during this year’s CEATEC event, organized between 2-6 this month in Japan. This is a very important event one in the world of new devices.

Which will be the cont of this display in the final cont of the product. I hope they will decide to produce this screen at a large scale. This can be a huge success if they have a competitive price.
