Root Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 XWUBMG5 Official Firmware

Galaxy S4 I9500, the one with an Exynos 5 CPU, was updated to Android 4.2.2 XWUBMG5 Jelly Bean firmware by yours truly. And, since that means all doors are open for a rooting of this same smartphone, then why not provide you with a guide on how to easily do that?

Which is where this post comes in. As soon as you update this phone to the firmware we previously mentioned, you will want to experience all the great things about such a procedure. And they are not few: you can flash a custom ROM (or many more if you like the one you downloaded), root-only applications and many more like them.

But none of the above will happen if you use the Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 that doesn’t feature the upgrade firmware we mentioned. CF-Auto-Root file is what we are using for this rooting guide. Getting this on the smartphone is going to take away its warranty; in that case, you should unroot the phone to have it back where it belongs by default.

Requirements

Other than using an already updated Galaxy S4 9500, you need to also check the following requirements out before you root the phone:

  • create backups using this tutorial;
  • turn on USB Debugging;
  • charge the handset’s battery;
  • use the carrier and factory unlocked Galaxy S4 GT-I9500;
  • find the USB drivers that are especially made for your phone and flash them on your notebook.

Instructions

  1. First one: download and then install Odin tool v3.07 (from this place) and the (the file is labelled CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500 .zip) on the notebook. Unzip them and then power your handset off.
  2. Get the latter into Download Mode by doing the following: press + hold together Home, Volume Down and Power; when “!” and the logo of Android are displayed, you need to press Volume Up.
  3. The Odin should now be launched as Admin on your laptop and then it’s time for you to plug the handset to your PC. Then one of these should happen:
    – a yellow ID:COM box is shown in blue or yellow;
    – Added!! will appear as a message on the screen.
  4. But in case the connection failed in an epic way, you should try again by switching to a different USB port or flashing the USB Drivers on the PC again. While you are in Odin, you should do as follows:
    – click PDA;
    – opt for the CF-Auto-Root .tar.md5 archive
  5. [sc name=”banner-jos”]The next couple of boxes should be checked up next: F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. The box with Re-partition on it need not be chosen. Now go to START and make sure you tap it so that the flashing of the rooting firmware can debut.
  6. The flashing being now over, the Galaxy S4 GT-9500 will restart. In the next couple of seconds it will have PASS all across it touchscreen (sporting a background in green). After that pops on the display, you should be able to do this: unplug the handset from your notebook.

Google Play has an app that goes by the name of Root Checker. Download it on your smartphone, because it has the role of telling you whether or not the device is rooted on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 XWUBMG5 official firmware. If not, redo the tutorial until it is.
