Install ParanoidAndroid Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Custom ROM on Sony Xperia J

Sony Xperia J is sure to have you pleasantly surprised as it’s finally getting an update to Android 4.1.2 via custom ROM known under its ParanoidAndroid name. Now that we know what we will talk about in the next minutes, we should warn you that the update is getting flashed on your phone only after you take care of come much-needed requirements.

The OTA update for this phone is still fresh from its creating stages. However, it succeeds in keeping us happy. Well, minus the couple of minor bugs we experienced along the way. But we are counting on its developer’s future plans of updating the tool to a 100% safer one.

Requirements

For now, though, here are the pre-requisites we just briefly mentioned before: root your handset before anything else needs to happen and flash either ClockworkMod Recovery or TeamWin Recovery Project for a custom recovery image, keep in mind that you must absolutely create backups using our guide (a NANDroid backup is also always a very clever idea so you can avoid problems later) and, last thing to check on this last, charge the battery of the Xperia J until the battery icon says that that it’s 100% full. Once you perform the last step included in this guide you shall be made aware of the following reality: the warranty that came with your phone is no longer a sure item on it. In order to get over yourself and see the warranty back where it should be, you you will have to either downgrade to official Android JB software or find an update to the said operating system.

Important instructions

The steps which belong to today’s tutorial should start with the first one; this one tells you to flash, on your laptop, the and to leave it as it is. Afterwards you will need to turn USB debugging on the Sony Xperia J and also turn off your handset’s and your comp’s security tools.
For the second step which comes after the previous one, your tasks require this: plug, with the phone’s USB cable, your Xperia J to your notebook/computer and then wait for the two to establish a connection; won’t take long till that happens.
Now that step one and two are covered, let’s head on for step number three; which will need you to copy the ParanoidAndroid file from where it’s at and paste it to the SD card of your smartphone. Wait for the transfer to end, then unplug the Xperia J from your laptop.

Step five should go in the following manner: reboot the device into Recovery Mode, then, once there, opt for Factory Rest/Wipe Data and for Wipe Cache Partition; also be sure to choose Wipe Dalvik Cache.
