Update LG Nexus 4 E960 with Chameleon OS Jelly Bean 4.2.2 custom ROM
LG Nexus 4 E960 has made us think that we should write a guide on how to update it to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. And write it we did using a tool called Chameleon OS custom ROM.
Experience brand new camera app, smoother user interface, new Google Now and many more advantages thanks to this custom ROM.
Requirements
Root the E960 first and install a custom recovery image on it if there’s none, turn on USB debugging on the Nexus 4, flash USB Drivers for your smartphone on your PC, create backups via our tutorials, use the factory unlocked handset and charge the integrated battery unit.
Find the steps you must follow for our guide below.
Important instructions
- Step 1: download the on your laptop (find the most recent version of it), then download Gapps archive from here to the same place. Plug the LG Nexus 4 E960 to your computer, then copy the two files to the SD card root of the handset; don’t extract anything, just unplug the devices from one another once the transfer from before is finally over.
- Power the smartphone off. To boot it into Recovery Mode: turn the E960 on and boot it into Bootloader Mode; while you’re in the latter mode, use the buttons for Volume to go to the Recovery Mode, then opt for it with Power.
- Perform a complete NANDroid backup by selecting Backup&Restore and tapping on Backup. When done, go back to the Main Recovery Menu and operate a full phone’s data wipe like this: opt for Factory reset/Wipe data, click on Yes and then have patience till the data wipe end.
- Go back, once more, to the phone’s Recovery Menu.
- Initiate a full wipe cache partition together with a complete Wipe Dalvik cache. Now opt for Install zip from SD card.
- For step 6 you need to select the following: Choose zip from SD card. After you find where you sent the Chameleon OS zip file, make sure to opt for it via Power, then confirm that your wish is to flash it on the Nexus 4.
- Wait for the installation of the ROM to finish, then flash the GApps archive on the phone by repeating what you had to do for the sixth step (be careful to select the gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip this time).
- Now that the two files are on your smartphone, step eight will need you to go back to the Main Recovery Menu.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]Opt for the system restarting; the Nexus 4 is seconds away from rebooting. And that’s how you update your phone to the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean!
Should you see a Staus 7 error message, you have to do as follows: flash a Jelly Bean kernel before you install the Chameleon OS. If your LG Nexus 4 E960 has to deal with an infinite boot loop, you need to do the following:
- operate a Wipe Cache Partition;
- perform a Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Now that you know how to deal with such problems, we will tell you how to best regain the phone’s old ROM: first boot it into Recovery; second: select Backup&Restore. Third: opt for the earlier ROM after you see it featured on a list. Fourth: restore it.
