Update Galaxy S4 Mini LTE GT-I9197 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 XXUAMG5 Firmware
Galaxy S4 Mini LTE I9197 is a dual-mode high-end smartphone that we’ll update to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 in today’s guide. You already know that this device comes with many strong features, a great performance and so on. But if you upgrade it to the OS we mentioned with the help of special firmware, we guarantee that you’ll love your phone even more.
Since the Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9197 was launched this past September, many developers started work on an update tool that would be compatible with this smartphone. One of them came up, in August this year, with something called Android 4.2.2 XXUAMG5.
In case your handset runs a custom ROM, you can safely follow our tutorial; but only if you live in Australia and use Optus as your carrier. This guide is also recommended to those of you who can’t look for updates via an OTA (with the Software Update button under Settings menu) or KIES method. You can, however, make use of the Samsung KIES and check for the necessary update yourself; but that will work only for those devices which are already on stock ROMs.
The firmware we are using will revoke root access if your smartphone is already rooted. However, the firmware is not going to delete any files from your phone. In case the S4 GT-I9197 is rooted and features a custom ROM, you will be able to upgrade it. But you should know this: the system partition will be wiped at the end of this process. Don’t worry: internal / external SD cards won’t be affected.
After you install the new firmware on your smartphone, you will receive new features, the battery is going to last more, new apps will also be yours to discover, there will be several tweaks to customize your device which will be more stable and fast, you will see zero bugs and so on.
Requirements
Below are some very important pre-requisites:
- use only the Galaxy S4 Mini I9197 (don’t attempt to use this tutorial for any other smartphones, as you will end up bricking its firmware);
- look at the battery status of your phone and charge it;
- create many backups (including a full NANDroid backup, via this guide);
- turn USB Debugging on;
- your PC or laptop must run Windows;
- look for USB drivers for your phone on this page and install them on your notebook or comp;
- disable the security programs installed on your smartphone and on your laptop.
Instructions
Now make way for the instructions with which you’ll update your phone.
- Start by downloading Odin tool v3.07 from this link and the .
- If you’ve finished with this first step, move on to the second one by extracting the files inside the two packages to your notebook and then booting the handset in Download Mode; the latter should go like this: press and hold Power, Home and Volume down together until the Android logo pops up, then press Power.
- Next you should establish a connection between your phone and your PC or laptop; use the USB cable of your handset for this and wait for a yellow ID:COM box and an “Added!!” message to appear. This means that the plugging went well; if it did not, you need to use a different USB port or install, again, the USB drivers.
- But if you didn’t encounter problems with the previous step, you should proceed to this one telling you to click on some buttons and then opt for certain files. Like this: after tapping PDA you have to choose a file with CODE in the name, then tap Phone and select a file with MODEM in its name, tap CSC and opt for a CSC file, tap PIT and go for a file with a .pit extension.
- The following boxes must then be activated: Re-partition, F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. After you’ve checked them, you should tap “Start“.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]After you are done with this, the new firmware will be flashed on your smartphone. So wait a bit until the process is over. Your phone is going to display “Pass” and then it shall restart. After you witness this, you have to disconnect the devices from one another. Go to Settings, open About Phone and look for the new Jelly Bean 4.2.2 XXUAMG5 stock firmware.
In case your smartphone doesn’t look too good with the new official firmware and you have a NANDroid backup , you can revoke the update process by using the latter.
