How to Update Galaxy Mega 6.3 GT-I9208 to Android 4.2.2 ZMUCNB2

If how your Galaxy Mega 6.3 GT-I9208 performs is not enough for you, how about an upgrade? By going for this procedure, the handset shall reveal its true strength. And that thanks to Android 4.2.2.

The OS we mentioned earlier can feature on the Galaxy Mega 6.3 if you work with the new ZMUCNB2 official firmware. Released for China this month, this new firmware will only work on the smartphone we indicated. If a different handset is used, you won’t get the desired result. Instead, you will end up with a bricked device.

The novelties

The new ROM features an activated KIES logo, allowing you to use the KIES software for an update. This method asks for the presence of stock ROM on your phone. For our guide, your handset won’t need that tool. If we’re talking about a rooted Galaxy Mega 6.3 I9208, the latter will be affected by the update. Here is how: the system partition will be deleted and root access will be wiped off. All of this aside, your smartphone’s internal/external SD cards and important content won’t be affected.

There are many goodies to be discovered once the phone has the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on it. A complete list of novelties begins with these two: a new Gallery app and low battery bug fixes. It continues with customization tweaks and a new set of sounds for wireless charging, better Bluetooth audio streaming and a USB debug white-list are the next two novelties. Prerequisites

Our recommendation for you is to follow these pre-requisites:

  • find USB Debugging on your phone and turn it on;
  • a laptop running Windows is the best device to use;
  • a regular backup and a full NANDroid one are both required, so create them;
  • here are the USB drivers which must be downloaded on your laptop;
  • turn off, on your Samsung GT-I9208, its security software;
  • deactivate, next, the security programs running on your notebook;
  • the phone must have a fully charged battery, so do that, too.

Step by step instructions

  1. For the first part of our tutorial we ask you to download a couple of files on your notebook. They’re these 2: Odin3 v3.09.exe (available on this page) and the new for China (file name: I9208ZMUCNB2_I9208CHMCNB2_CHM.zip). If the download is over and the packages are on the notebook, you have to extract them.
  2. You will soon come across many files resulted from this unzipping, among them Odin v3.09.exe.
  3. This file should be launched on your laptop, then be sure to boot the smartphone in Download Mode by following this method: press and hold Home, Power and Volume Down at the same time, see if a boot screen comes up, then release the other buttons and instead press only the key called Volume Up.
  4. Time to ensure a connection between the handset and the notebook. This is a task which needs the use of the USB cable belonging to the smartphone.
  5. After using it, wait for the Odin to reveal a blue sign. Once the plugging is established, do as follows: go to the firmware file. You will need to add it to AP / PDA.
  6. After that, move on to this step requiring you to tick F. Reset Time. You will then have to also tick Auto Reboot and uncheck Re-partition.
  7. If you’re done with this, continue with this step: click on “Start“. The installation of the new firmware is going to proceed, so let it do its thing for the next 10-15 minutes.
  8. The flashing will only end when “Pass” appears on the screen in green. After the necessary message comes up, you should disconnect the phone from your notebook after the Galaxy Mega 6.3 I9208 reboots.
  9. [sc name=”banner-jos”]The ZMUCNB2 is now ready to be explored. Get it to open by tapping Settings on the handset, then clicking on About Phone. If the firmware is launched already, take it for a spin.

If the Samsung GT-I9208 isn’t what you thought it would be, there is something you can do about that: restore the old ROM. That’s a task which needs the use of the NANDroid backup file. By restoring the former ROM, the update procedure is going to be revoked from your smartphone.
