Install Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on Galaxy S2 I9100G using CM10.1 RC4 Custom ROM
You will know how to update your Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean from this “How to” post. As custom ROM we are using CM10.1 thanks to its many excellent features. You will also experience lots of interesting apps. And, most importantly, you will see that there are no more bugs to deal with.
Overall, if you update your phone to the newest Android 4.2.2 JB version, the performance of your handset will become loads better. Speed, for one, is going to definitely be superior to what the previous OS version came with. Likewise, the phone’s battery will last longer.
Requirements
Usually, to update a gadget to the latest version of an operating system, the owner of a smartphone or a tablet will have to follow certain requirements.
Here are the ones which apply to the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G: have it rooted if it isn’t already, flash a custom recovery image on it after that (you can choose TeamWin Recovery Project or ClockworkMod Recovery for this), use a laptop for this tutorial. Make as many backups as are needed to save all the valuable data that’s on your smartphone (the ROM that’s on the device right now should also be backed up so that you can restore the stock Android JB firmware in case you come across issues during the guide), turn on USB debugging on the handset, turn off all the programs that protect both your phone and your laptop against viruses and other threats, use only the Galaxy S2 I9100G and charge the smartphone’s battery in case you see it needs that.
After you get your handset updated, its warranty will no longer be featured on the device. But fear not: you can get it back by choosing between these solutions:
– find a tutorial on how to unroot the handset;
or
– downgrade the device to the default ROM.
Instructions
Now you can start flashing the CM10.1 RC4 custom ROM on your Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G.
- First action to complete: download , then download a package called Google Apps and available here. These two need to be saved on the notebook you use daily, then you should leave them like that, don’t extract what the zip files contain.
- The next thing you need to do is this: take the USB cable that ships with the smartphone; use it so that the handset is plugged to your comp. After the devices are connected to one another, you will be asked to copy paste the two zip files from their location to the SD card of the S2 I9100G.
- After the transfer is completely done, you need to unplug the smartphone from the notebook. Proceed, now, by switching the phone off and then rebooting it into Recovery Mode by way of the following actions: press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home together. Now you should wait.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]Follow these tasks up by opting for Factory Reset/Wipe Data and Wipe Cache Partition. After the system of the handset has been wiped, you need to select +++go back+++.
- Go to the phone’s menu now and then choose Install zip from SD card.
- Next: select Choose zip from SD card and choose the CM10.1 Release Candidate 4. After the ROM is installed on the phone, repeat the actions from “and then choose Install zip from SD card (…)” onward to have the Gapps archive flashed, too.
- Again, go back to the phone’s menu. Choose, from there, the system restarting option. Your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G is now updated to the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
