Update Galaxy S4 Mini I9195 to Android 4.2.2 XXUAMF5 Stock Firmware

XXUAMF5 has been out for your Galaxy S4 Mini I9195 since June, August and December this year. The actual smartphone was launched last year. Today we will share with you our method of updating this device to Android 4.2.2.

The June version of this firmware came out for these regions: Switzerland, Romania (Orange and Cosmote), Poland, Open Austria, Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Ireland (Three and O2), Germany (O2 and E-Plus), the Czech Republic and Baltic. Spain (Orange) received the new firmware in August, while the UK (H3G) got this tool this month.

If you plan on using a different method to upgrade your handset (other than ours), you can do so if you live in the UK. The XXUAMF5 released for this country comes with an activated KIES logo, which means that you can update the phone with KIES (provided that your device has a stock ROM on it). OTA (via the Software Update button under Settings menu; the phone must be running a stock ROM, as well) or our tutorial can be used for the countries which can’t use Samsung’s KIES.

The novelties

Before you learn how to install the new firmware and have your Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195 updated to the Android 4.2.2, we must tell you that you need to only use this smartphone for our guide. If a completely different model is used, it will be bricked. How about the goodies included in the upgrade?

Here are the new features you’ll be able to use: the possibility to long-press the WiFi and Bluetooth icons in Quick Settings so that you can easily toggle the on/off state, a new Gallery app with superior speed when loading, a new set of sounds for wireless charging and low battery bug fixes, an absence of Bluetooth audio streaming bugs, a new set of download notifications and USB debug white-list.

As soon as the update is achieved, the root access of your handset (if it has something like that) will be revoked and the phone’s system partition will end up erased. But the internal and external SD cards won’t be damaged. The important data will also be untouched.

Requirements

Pre-requisites are now the main thing to address:

  • use a notebook which is running Windows;
  • make several backups (a regular one and a full NANDroid backup, made with this guide);
  • don’t forget to install USB drivers for your particular smartphone from this place on your notebook;
  • your handset must have USB Debugging enabled;
  • if your device’s battery is running low, charge it;
  • make sure the security programs that come pre-installed on the laptop and your I9195 are disabled.Galaxy-S4-Mini-I9195

Step by step instructions

  1. The two packages that your laptop should have on it before the update can begin are Odin (available here) and (you must search for “XXUAMF5” in the “Select your firmware” field, then you must select the appropriate file, compatible with your smartphone).
  2. Once the download of each of these packages is over, you should unzip them and afterwards launch, on your laptop, the Odin as an Admin and then do this: boot the phone in Download Mode by pressing and simultaneously holding the buttons labelled Volume Down, Home and Power till the Download Mode pops up on the screen.
  3. Connect, for the next step, your Samsung I9195 to your laptop (use the handset’s USB cord for this). The plugging is going to be a success after you spot “Added!!” and an ID:COM box in yellow.
  4. If you don’t, we ask you to either choose another USB port to use or re-install the USB drivers on your notebook. tap PDA, select a file with CODE in the name, tap Phone, opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC, choose a file which has CSC in the name, tap PIT and choose a file with an extension called .pit.
  5. You will then have to check F. Reset Time, Auto Reboot and Re-partition.
  6. [sc name=”banner-jos”]Click on “Start” to begin the flashing of the new stock firmware on your Galaxy S4 Mini I9195. The latter will reboot after the installation of the new firmware is over, then it shall have “Pass” on the display. You will then be able to do this: remove the USB cable and disconnect the handset from your other device.

Once you try the XXUAMF5 out and you discover flaws, you can get the previous ROM back on the phone via the NANDroid backup file. Thus, you will see that the update process is revoked.
