Update Xperia Sola MT27i to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean via CM10.1

Xperia Sola MT27i has more to show in terms of performance than meets the eye. What makes that so is CM10.1 which is the appropriate tool for an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

But there is a catch: this firmware may bring loads of tweaks, stability and such to the general performance, but what you get in turn are bugs that will mess with the phone’s Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi tether and Wi-Fi direct. However, these bugs are not of the serious kind.

Requirements

Requirements are the thing that should occupy your attention now, so look at them below:

• create backups via these steps;
• turn on USB Debugging;
• charge the battery of your handset;
• get a custom recovery image on it;
• the phone must have its bootloader unlocked.

Instructions

1. Let the tutorial begin now. Download , then install it on your smartphone by sending this firmware to your phone. You will also have to download Google Apps on the laptop, install it too and then download, on the same device, (file name: ADB_files.zip). These two last packages should also end up on your handset while it is connected to your comp.
2. Leave these files untouched, then install the kernel on the handset by beginning with these tasks: unzip the ADB and then the fastboot files, extract the cm-10.1-2013….NIGHTLY-pepper.zip and you should now expect a boot.img to appear.
3. You will now have to move the latter to the folder which has the ADB and the fastboot files. Install the kernel by booting the phone into Fastboot Mode; this is done by powering the handset off, plugging it to the notebook and pressing Volume Up while the connection is happening.
4. Then you will need to launch the folder which sports the boot.img, the ADB and the fastboot files. When done, some files are going to pop up: adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll, fastboot.exe and runme.lnk.
5. Now double-click on the last file. When a Command Line Window shall appear, you will have to enter
   fastboot devices
   in it. Wait until you see some numbers on the display.
6. After they do, you will know that your Sony MT27i is well plugged to your notebook, so next up do as follows: enter
   fastboot flash boot boot.img
   Now restart the handset by entering
   fastboot reboot
7. And then wait till the phone restart in Normal Mode before you learn how to actually flash the CM10.1.
8. For starters, be sure to plug the Xperia Sola MT27i to your laptop once more, transfer the Google Apps together with the CM10.1.zip files to the phone’s SD card root and then launch the folder that has the fastboot file along with the ADB one. Make sure you do this next: double-click on the file called runme.
9. Enter this command afterwards:
   adb reboot recovery
10. When your smartphone restarts in Recovery Mode, you should unplug the phone from your comp, then make a NANDroid backup.
11. To make one successfully, you will have to choose these options: “Backup and Restore” and “Backup”. Here are the next 2 options which must be selected: “Factory Reset/Wipe Data” and then “Wipe Cache Partition“.
12. After that, you should opt for Install zip from SD card. Select Choose zip from SD card, opt for the firmware zip files and confirm.
13. [sc name=”banner-jos”]After the flashing is fully over, the phone will redirect you to the Recovery Menu, so opt for Factory Reset/Wipe Data and after that for Wipe Cache Partition when you’re in the respective menu.
14. The actions that got the CM10.1 on your phone are the same ones which will get the Google Apps package on it; so perform all of them. Wait to see the packages installed on the phone, then choose Go back and make sure you restart the handset next. At the end of the process, the new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is installed on your Xperia Sola MT27i.

To restore the old ROM that came with the phone, you should do the following: boot the device in Recovery Mode, choose “Backup and Restore“, opt for only “Restore” and finish by opting for what ROM you want back on the handset.
