Update Motorola Xoom 3G with CM10.1 Nightly Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Custom ROM

An updated tablet is sure to make its owner happy, so buckle up and let us tell you how to update your Motorola Xoom 3G to Android 4.2.2. CM10.1 Nightly Build ROM is the most appropriate tool for our guide, so watch us how we show you the dos and don’ts in this post.

Requirements

To enjoy better stability, improved performance and so on, you will need to apply the following pre-requisites: use a bootloader and carrier unlocked Xoom 3G, flash USB drivers for this tablet on your laptop, turn on USB debugging, charge the battery of the gadget and create backups using our instructions (employ an external SD card to backup the data from the internal memory of the tablet on it).

Important instructions

  1. We will now leave those requirements behind us and turn to the files that your notebook needs to feature: Google Apps (you must choose the file labelled gapps_unified-jb-20130220-signed.zip) and . Plug the tablet to the laptop.
  2. Now go to where the two files are; take them from there and transfer them to the tablet’s SD card. Unplug the devices from one another.Motorola-Xoom-3G
  3. Motorola’s Xoom 3G will then have to be powered off. After you do that, you have to enter the gadget into CWM Recovery Mode by pressing Power and, after the handset is back on, you have to wait for the boot screen to appear; once that happens, you should tap Volume Down a couple of times and “Android Recovery” should show up. You will be in the Recovery Mode once you press Volume Up.
  4. If you did not make a NANDroid backup, you should do it now.
  5. When you are done performing that, you need to operate three wiping actions. Let’s see the first one: opt for Factory Reset/Wipe Data, then choose “Yes”. After the first task is over, you should return to the Recovery Menu and choose Wipe Cache Partition, which is the second wiping action. The third one will go like this: opt for Wipe Dalvik Cache.
  6. Now that all three wiping tasks are done with, you have to choose Install zip from SD card. Also, opt for Choose zip from SD card. Press Power to choose the cm-10.1-20130515-NIGHTLY-everest.zip file. As soon as you confirm this, the firmware will be flashed on the tablet.
  7. [sc name=”banner-jos”]Now install the Google Apps archive by doing what you did in this paragraph, then wait for the process to be complete before you return to the Recovery Menu. And, when you are in that place, you need to opt for the system restarting. Now wait for the ROM to be flashed on your Motorola Xoom 3G.

The following message can appear on the display of your tablet while you’re performing the guide: “Status 7 error”. But we have a solution: flash a compatible kernel on the gadget and then flash the CM10.1 Nightly Build custom firmware. In case of a boot loop, though, you have to perform two operations before you reboot the tablet: Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache.

The Motorola Xoom 3G can return to the ROM it came with by doing this: opt for Backup&Restore and choosing the tool from a list.
