Update LG Nexus 4 E960 with Jelly Bean 4.3 SlimBean Stable custom ROM

If you’re one of the many people who own LG Nexus 4, you should know that SlimBean custom ROM is a stable firmware meant to bring Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and its group of features, possibilities and whatnot.

Requirements

In case you want to go on this road that involves your phone and an update, you should begin the adventure by considering the following very important pre-requisites:

  • root your Nexus 4;
  • be sure to add a custom recovery on it after it’s rooted (the two best bets are TWRP and CWM, so make sure you choose one of them);
  • use the bootloader unlocked phone;
  • create several backups that function as a way to keep your handset’s data saved for rainy days (a NANDroid backup is also a great way to salvage data should you want to go back to the phone’s previous ROM if the new one is not to your liking);
  • turn on USB Debugging;
  • charge the battery of your handset.LG-Nexus-4-E960

Of course, having the SlimBean firmware on your smartphone will mean the world to how it performs and such. But these aren’t the only things that recommend it. The ROM in question will use very little of the phone’s memory and battery.

Important instructions

But enough of the ROM’s greatness. Let’s get it installed on your Nexus 4 E960, shall we?

  1. First: download (file name: Slim-mako-4.3.build.1-OFFICIAL-898.zip) along with Gapps on your notebook, then plug the handset to the laptop; the two packages must remain unzipped, though.
  2. Now take them both from the PC, place them on the SD card root of your phone and, once the movement is over, do this: unplug the devices from each other.
  3. After that, switch the phone off and enter it in Bootloader Mode; boot the device afterwards in Recovery Mode (via this tutorial) and be sure to also make that NANDroid backup if you didn’t make it.
  4. The way to create that sort of backup will largely depend on your phone’s custom recovery option. If TWRP is working closely with your device, you need to tap “Backup” first and wait for the backup to happen. If ClockworkMod is what your smartphone uses, then opt for Backup&Restore, save the files you want backed up to the SD card of your LG Nexus 4 and then confirm.
  5. Now prepare to factory reset your phone depending, once more, on the custom recovery. To apply a factory reset on a device sporting the TWRP, you have to tap “Wipe”, tap “Factory reset” next and then confirm. In case you use the CWM, the factory reset should be performed like this: choose Factory Reset/Wipe data and confirm.

One is for when the TWRP runs on your phone: tap “Install”, look for the SlimBean zip file and make sure you afterwards confirm the installation. When CWM is featured on the Nexus 4 E960, you have to opt for Install zip from SD card and for Choose zip from SD card, locate the upgrade file and wait for it to flash on your phone.
  7. Go to the Recovery screen once the Nexus 4 has all the necessary update tools. There, do this: restart the handset. After the latter reboots into Normal Mode, you should go to your own Google Account; then enter your personal details there and accustom yourself with the SlimBean Android 4.3 Stable custom ROM and all of its superb qualities.
