Update Galaxy S Advance I9070 to Android 2.3.6 BULE2 stock Firmware
Galaxy S Advance I9070 won’t be staying long without an update anymore. And so we present BULE2, the official firmware we found that was created with this purpose: to bring Android 2.3.6 on your smartphone. The new Gingerbread firmware is very generous where features are concerned. And you will see what we mean soon.
The countries that will be able to use the new firmware are Austria (A1), Ireland (Vodafone), Italy, Spain, Switzerland (Swisscom) and the UK. The official release date for this stock firmware: May last year (the same as your phone’s release date).
The novelties
Here is what you will experience after your phone is upgraded: superior stability while moving between home screen panels, mobile hotspot bug fixes and better security, update to VZ Navigator with all the latest 3D map enhancements, Visual Voice Mail updates, better battery life whenever you want to use Phone Book Access Profile Bluetooth headsets, enhanced data throughput performance in environments that register low 4G signals, Vcast apps, an updated Favorite Contacts widget and CMAS (short for Commercial Mobile Alert Service).
The update comes with better stability for data connectivity after you turn Airplane Mode off, the possibility to see how the amount of time left until you’re ready with the performing of an OTA update. If your device doesn’t run a custom ROM, this tutorial can still be applied on it. Also, Ireland users will be able to update their handset with KIES, too (the firmware’s KIES logo is activated; you can have installed a custom ROM on your phone for this method). For the others we recommend using one of these methods: our very own guide or OTA (this method also requires the flashing of a custom ROM).
This stock firmware has some cons, in particular these: it will revoke root access and delete the system partition. But you will get to keep the important data on the phone and the internal/external SD cards won’t be affected. To avoid bricking your handset, make sure you’re using only the Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070.
Requirements
You’ll now have to get accustomed to these requirements:
- make sure no security program is running on your notebook and handset alike;
- download, on the laptop, USB drivers that are suitable for the phone;
- the USB cord that belongs to your Galaxy S Advance I9070 should be taken out of the box;
- charge the battery unit of your phone;
- a regular backup and a full NANDroid one must be performed (the guide is here);
- your laptop’s operating system should be Windows;
- on your phone, there’s an option you’ll see labelled USB Debugging that needs to be enabled.
How to flash BULE2 on your device
- Once you’re done with them, you need to download Odin from this page along with the Android 2.3.6 BULE2 (the Austria A1 version , the Ireland Vodafone version , the Italy Vodafone version from , the Spain version , the Switzerland Swisscom version and the UK version ) on your notebook.
- Their files need to be flashed on your laptop next, so you have to extract them. Enter, for the next step, your smartphone in Download Mode, so make sure you press and hold, simultaneously, Volume Down + Home + Power, release them when Android’s logo together with a triangle pop up and then press Power.
- You will now be required to do this: launch, on your laptop, the Odin as Admin.
- Connect the handset to your notebook with the former’s USB cord. As soon as a yellow-colored ID:COM box and “Added!!” appear, the two devices will be plugged to one another successfully. If they’re not, you should consider using another USB port or just flashing the USB drivers once more on your laptop.
- Then tap PDA, opt for a file with a CODE in its name, tap Phone, opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC, opt for a file with a CSC in the name, tap PIT and after that opt for a file that comes with .pit as its extension.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]Next up: check Re-partition, F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. You will then have to move on by tapping “Start”. The flashing of the BULE2 official firmware will begin after you do that.
- The end of the process is going to be signaled by these two elements: the restarting of your Samsung I9070 and the appearance of a “Pass” message.
When these two show up on the display, you need to disconnect the devices from each other. If you are of the opinion that the new Gingerbread 2.3.6 stock firmware is not as great as the old one was, the NANDroid backup will help you restore it.
