Update Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 to Android 2.3.6 XXMC1 Official Firmware

Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is getting some new stuff to make the user experience sparkle: Android 2.3.6 in its freshly updated form.

XXMC1 is the official firmware which takes all the credit for today’s guide. This custom tool made its way online in April for Germany, and in July for Spain, Luxembourg and Hungary (Telenor). Your handset will be updated to the Android 2.3.6 only if it’s the Galaxy Ace Duos GT-S6802 model; it’s OK if you don’t have a custom ROM running on your device, you can still upgrade it.

The novelties

The new firmware brings some very neat features: better stability while moving between home screen panels, Visual Voice Mail updates, update to VZ Navigator with the newest 3D map improvements, better battery life whenever you want to use Phone Book Access Profile Bluetooth headsets, mobile hotspot bug fixes and better security, enhanced data throughput performance in environments that register low 4G signals, Vcast apps, an updated Favorite Contacts widget, CMAS (short for Commercial Mobile Alert Service), the ability to see how much longer you have to wait while performing an OTA update and better stability for data connectivity after you turn Airplane Mode off.

The KIES logo of the version for Spain is turned on, so that you can flash the phone using the KIES software. You can’t do that if you live in Germany, so make sure you upgrade your handset by using OTA with the Software Update option under Settings menu or our own tutorial.

If the Galaxy Ace Duos S6802 is rooted already, updating it to the Gingerbread 2.3.6 with the new firmware will delete its system partition and revoke the root access. But your smartphone’s important content will be kept and the internal/external SD cards will not be damaged. Galaxy-Ace-Duos-S6802

Requirements

On to some very important requirements that you must look out for:

  • turn USB Debugging on;
  • download, on your laptop, Odin tool from this page and after that the Android 2.3.6 XXMC1 stock firmware (the Germany version , the Hungary version , the Luxembourg version and the Spain version );
  • look for USB drivers especially made for your handset on this page and then make sure they are downloaded on your notebook;
  • charge the battery that’s inside your handset;
  • make normal backups (and then also a full NANDroid one);
  • turn off the security software running on the phone and the laptop;
  • your laptop must only run Windows.

How to flash Gingerbread 2.3.6 XXMC1 on your device

If you are done with these pe-requisites, time to begin the guide.

  1. Here’s what you need to do for the first step: unzip the content of the Android 2.3.6 XXMC1 and the Odin on your notebook.
  2. Next step asks you to boot the Samsung GT-S6802 into Download Mode by pressing and holding, together, Volume Down + Home + Power, then stop when you spot a warning message. You are done when you see it, so move on to this task: open the Odin as Admin on your notebook and take the USB cord of your phone to establish, with it, a connection between this device and the laptop.
  3. The plugging will only happen when you see an “Added!!” message and an ID:COM box in yellow. In case the connection is not established, you have to use another method: install the USB drivers again or use another USB port.
  4. To go on, you should tap PDA, opt for a file with a CODE in its name, tap Phone, opt for a file with MODEM in the name, click on CSC, opt for that file which has CSC in the name, tap PIT and be sure to select a file that comes with a .pit extension.
  5. Then be sure to check Auto Reboot, Re-partition and afterwards F. Reset Time.
  6. [sc name=”banner-jos”]The step that comes after this one needs you to tap “Start” so that the new stock firmware can end up on the phone. You will have to wait for only a couple of minutes; when the time is up, you should see a message reading “Pass” once your device has restarted.

Go on and remove the USB cable so that the two devices aren’t plugged to one another. The new firmware can be enjoyed after you click on Settings and then tap About Phone.

If the XXMC1 stock firmware isn’t that amazing, you need to use the NANDroid backup file to have the previous ROM restored on your Galaxy Ace Duos S6802. With its help, the update process will be revoked.
