Update AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 to Jelly Bean 4.1 using Asylum CM10
There have been a lot of custom ROMs that were created to update various gadgets to the latest operating systems. Some of them were excellent, some not so. The ones made by members of the XDA Developers forum are among the best ones. The tool we chose to tackle today, the Asylum CM10, is one of the good ones. We tested it on the smartphone it was meant for, Samsung’s Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 from AT&T, and it delivered a great performance after the installation process was done. Even with the occasional bugs we met along the way.
Requirements
The requirements expected from you before you install the custom ROM are not many. You will need two main files first: and . Then you need to create a backup. Finally, take a peek at the Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 and see if it sports ClockworkMod Recovery. If it does, you’re good to go.
Below you can find all the steps needed for the installation of the Asylum CM10 ROM and Android 4.1 on your handset.
Important instructions
- Copy the Asylum CM10 ROM and the GApps pack you downloaded on the smartphone’s SD card. After you are done with this first step, switch the device off.
- The following step, number 2, sounds like this: reboot the phone into ClockworkMod Recovery via the pressing and holding down of the keys for Volume Up, Home and Power (if you cannot find your way about, the button for Power can work as a selection tool and the ones for Volume become navigation helpers).
- Step 3 goes something like this: perform a NANDroid backup of the ROM on the handset, then find Backup and Restore options.
- For the fourth step you have to, once the Backup and Restore found, choose Backup. Once the backup is finished, do a full wipe. If you have no clue how to perform it: opt for Factory reset/Wipe data.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]For step number 5 you need to confirm what you did. Should you be on CM10, don’t wipe the data. Instead, wipe the cache by choosing the option called Wipe cache partition. Then confirm it.
- For the sixth step, do this: return to the phone’s main menu and opt for Install ZIP from SD card.
- Step number 7 instructs you the following: select to install the archive file from SD card and look for Asylum CM10 ROM. When you find it, choose it and do a confirmation.
- Step 8 tells you to do again what you performed for steps 6 and 7. This time around, though, choose the Google Apps ZIP file.
- This will also need a confirmation so as to proceed to the following step, number 9, which requires you to return to the main menu. Once there, opt for restarting the entire system.
You can now discover all the novelties of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. Which mean an added Apex Launcher (it works as the phone’s default launcher), performance tweaks, no bloatware anymore and brand new themes.
