Update Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Avatar ROM 2.4b
Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 (the AT&T version) shouldn’t have any problems getting an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Why? Because there is Avatar ROM to lend a most necessary helping hand in the matter.
This tool has received a lot pf praise so far thanks to its stability and numerous features.
Requirements
To be able to gain access to those, and to the operating system it helps install, you need to first use the factory unlocked version of the S2 I777, create a backup via this tutorial, turn USB debugging on, install USB Drivers for the smartphone on your laptop and charge the battery.
Important instructions
- This tutorial begins with step one: download and GApps from this page (you must choose the file labelled gapps-jb-20130301-signed archive) on the laptop that’s near you. Be careful to plug the smartphone to it an then copy + paste the two files to the memory card root of the Galaxy S2 SGH-I777.
- Unplug the devices from each other’s grasp after the transfer has concluded.
- Power the handset off; now boot it into recovery mode by pressing + holding Volume Down, Volume Up and Power. After the phone’s display starts to flash, you should let go of Power. After the phone is in the recovery mode, you will have to operate a NANDroid backup of the device’s current ROM.
- Step four will need you to do the following: choose Factory reset/Wipe data. When done, opt for Yes; which works as confirmation of the fact that you need to perform a wipe task.
- Return to the recovery main menu and choose Wipe Cache Partition. Then opt for Wipe Dalvik Cache and follow this up by choosing Install zip from SD card.
- In step six, your task will be the following: opt for Choose zip from SD card. The AvatarROM v2.b4 zip file will have to be opted for next; do this by using Power.
- Operate a confirmation of this and wait for the file to be flashed on the Galaxy S2 I777.
- Step eight will need you to repeat what you just did in steps six and seven so that the GApps zip file is also installed on the smartphone.
- Next up: make sure you are in the main recovery menu for the next task. Which sounds like this: opt for the system restarting. Have some patience for this procedure to happen, then get to know how your AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 reacts with this new update on it.

Such procedures may attract problems while you’re following the steps in the tutorials or after you’re done with everything. For instance: you can be put face to face with a Status 7 warning message. What is one to do in such a case? Simply get a related ROM before you flash the firmware on the phone. If, however, you run into a boot loop, you should simply perform two tasks: a Wipe Cache Partition and a Wipe Dalvik Cache.
After installing updates on their devices, many owners wanted to restore the original ROM. If you wish to do the same, you will have to do the following: boot the phone into Recovery, opt for Backup&Restore and choose your model from a list.
