Samsung Galaxy S2 vs Galaxy S3
Samsung’s newest creation, Galaxy S3, has seen a very warm welcome by many of the manufacturer’s dedicated fans. Who placed an order on it soon after. Consumers eventually started comparing it to the manufacturer’s Galaxy S2 which had a similar following in its time. And that’s what we are also doing today. Find out more about these two smartphones below.
Among the first aspects that a consumer takes into account before buying a new gadget is the design. Samsung is among the manufacturers who consider looks as important as specs and features. That’s why the Galaxy S3 has a beautiful design. Its body has the following measurements: 136.6mm x 70.6mm x 8.6mm. It weighs 133g. The Galaxy S2, on the other hand, is a 125.3mm x 66.1mm x 8.49mm smartphone that weighs 116g. So, for all purposes, the Galaxy S3 is simply heavier.
The display specifications
Then there’s the matter of the devices’ types of touchscreen. The S2 has a 4.3″ display, the one on the S3 is bigger at 4.8″. And it’s a Super AMOLED HD type of touchscreen. The resolution on the latter is 1,280 x 720 pixels. The people who have already tried the Galaxy S3 out reported that its display is capable of great things. Especially when it comes to colors, sharpness and brightness.
The operating system of choice on the two handsets is not the same. The Galaxy S3 is preinstalled with the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. By comparison, the S2 model ships with the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread version. Which can receive an upgrade to the 4.0.4 version, though. The user interface on the S2 is the TouchWiz 4.0. Even though the OSs are different, the hub applications are present on each of these smartphones.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 2100mAh battery. It’s a bigger one for sure, because it has to accommodate the large display. And the CPU we will discuss shortly. The battery on the Galaxy S2 is smaller: 1650mAh.
The processors
Now let’s see what kind of processors these handsets use. The Galaxy S2 has a dual-core 1GHz Exynos. The S3 sports a quad-core 1.4GHz Exynos 4. This is something that the old S2 didn’t feature. The South Korean company themselves said that this type of chip in their processor means that the smartphone won’t eat up as much power as the Galaxy S2 did. And that’s great, since we all know how much that model consumed, no matter how little we did with it on a daily basis.
Having many good options for connectivity is another advantage that both these handsets offer. All Wi-Fi bands get coverage. And each of the phones ships with HSPA+ and also 3G/HSDPA. Speeds are, thus, awesome: up to 21Mbps. Wi-Fi Direct and 802.11a/b/g/n with DLNA content sharing are both supported, too. Wireless options with the Galaxy S3 include Bluetooth 4.0 and something called MHL. The S2 presents the owner with Bluetooth 3.0+HS.

Memory is 1GB of RAM on both smartphones. In terms of storage space, things are like this: the Galaxy S3 model features 16, 32 and 64GB. The S2 sports 16GB or 32GB on different models. One microSD card can be found on the Galaxy S2 as well as the S3.
Other characteristics
Both of the devices have cams: one on the front and one on the rear. The one on the front is a different one on each of the phones. The S3 offers a 1.2MP 720p version compared to the 2MP model on the previous smartphone. The cameras on the back of these two smartphones is an 8-megapixel one. It features things like face/smile detection, autofocus, image stabilization, LED flash and many more.
The Galaxy S2 and the Galaxy S3 both have a lot of features. Besides the usual light sensors, GPS/A-GPS, screen-flipping accelerometer, built-in gyroscope, proximity sensors and digital compass, the S2 model does not have a barometer . Compared to it, the new smartphone has one.
Considering that the Samsung Galaxy S2 is still a sought after smartphone, one may consider the Galaxy S3 as a worthy successor to the legacy. But its most important con is its price tag. If you sign a contract with a carrier, it will require, monthly, a total of £36+ price bracket. The monthly price for the Galaxy S2 is £21-23.
