Root Galaxy S4 I9500 running on Android 4.3 UBUEML1 Firmware
Today’s guide is suitable for Galaxy S4 I9500 that’s running this official firmware: UBUEML1. And this operating system: Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. If you’re sure you’ve got the right smartphone model with the right firmware and OS, you can start our tutorial on how to root your handset.
The reason we want you to use the device we said (featuring the UBUEML1 and the Jelly Bean 4.3) is the following: if you root another model with our steps, you will only brick it.
However, a rooting will also do this to your device: the warranty is going to be void. To claim it back, we suggest you unroot your Galaxy S4 GT-I9500.
Once you know how this guide works, you should take a look at what pros will come if your smartphone is rooted with our method: your device is going to have a longer-lasting battery thanks to various tweaks, you will be able to enjoy new features, flash root-only apps, underclock or overclock the GPU and the processor, access system files, use MODs and such.
Requirements
A look at the following requirements and you will be able to root your phone:
- download, on your laptop, (file name: CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.zip) and the latest version of Odin;
- be sure to save your phone’s data by creating backups;
- install, on your notebook, USB drivers that only work with your handset;
- check your device’s battery and, if the charge levels are low, charge the phone;
- turn on USB Debugging.
Step by step instructions
- The steps to root the Galaxy S4 I9500 should begin with you unzipping the Odin v3.09 and the CF-Autoroot archive on the laptop, then doing this: looking for Odin .exe and the file ending in .tar.md5.
- The phone has to be turned off so that you can boot it in Download Mode. For that, we recommend these actions: press and simultaneously hold Volume Down, Home and Power; as soon as a warning screen appears, you will need to press Volume Up.
- Up next: launch the Odin 3.09.exe as Admin on the notebook.
- After that is done, time to plug the phone to the laptop. To establish that connection, you have to use the phone’s USB cord, then wait. If no yellow ID:COM box or “Added!!” message come up, you should solve this by looking for a different USB port to use or flashing the USB drivers once again.
- If this works, you can do the following: tap AP. When that is also done, here’s what you need to do next: after you opt for the .tar.md5 file, you should check F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot.
- Then move on to this step: tap “Start” and watch as the rooting tool is flashed on the Galaxy S4 GT-I9500.
- After this stage of the guide is done, you need to have patience a bit because the phone is going to reboot and the phone is rooted on UBUEML1 stock firmware. You can unplug the handset from the laptop after it displays “Pass” on the screen.

Here’s what you should do in case problems appear during the tutorial:
- open the Internet on your phone;
- upgrade the SuperSU app binary;
- launch it then disable KNOX notification.
