Motorola Droid Razr HD Maxx vs iPhone 5 battle
The battle of smartphones makes another stop in today’s article. The latest opponents are the iPhone 5 and the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Let’s see what we thought of these two models.
The dimensions of the iPhone 5 are as follows: 123.8 mm x 58.6 mm x 7.6 mm. The body of this smartphone weighs 112 g. Compared to this, the Droid Razr Maxx HD has a body of 157 g and 131.9 mm x 67.9 mm x 9.3 mm. Yes, this goes to show that the iPhone is still among the thinnest and the lightest smartphones these days.
The operating systems
The operating systems are both different. In the case of the Maxx HD it’s all about the Android Ice Cream Sandwich version. Apple chose the iOS 6 operating system for their iPhone 5. Which means that you won’t see that many changes on the latter. The new OS on Motorola’s handset implies changes in the user interface department and apps. If you aren’t a fan of bazillions of icons, you should stay away from the iPhone 5, as it features plenty of them. This handset should simply add, instead of them, other elements that are way more important: keyboards, widgets and so on. But anyways, both operating systems are easy to navigate and look appealing.
When comparing these two smartphones according to their displays, the one sported by the Droid Razr HD Maxx is as good as the one on the iPhone 5. In exact dimensions, the Maxx HD has a touch screen HD display (capable to offer up to 720p resolution) with 4.7 inches diagonal. The type of this screen is AMOLED. Tests showed that this kind of display is capable of producing very good quality when it comes to brightness sharpness, colors and so on. The same can be said about the touchscreen featured on Apple’s iPhone 5, too. Which is a 4″ version. This display’s aspect ratio is 16:09 and its resolution is 1136 x 640 pixels. These two elements make it a favorite among Apple fans. And, as far as quality goes, its performance is great.
The connectivity
Connectivity means Wi-Fi b/g/n, GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE and GPS on both the Razr Maxx HD and the iPhone 5, with a small detail: Motorola’s model sports NFC support and world roaming capabilities. Which means that, should you own this device, you will be able to pay for stuff online and also share various files. The iPhone 5 does not have these possibilities.
From what we experienced first-hand, the type of CPU that Apple used on their iPhone 5 is a 1.2GHz one, with two cores. The Razr Maxx HD comes with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU with two cores. The graphics processor sported by the new iPhone 5 is a PowerVR SGX 543MP3. The GPU on Motorola’s latest creation is called Adreno 225.

For the RAZR Maxx HD, a 1GB of internal RAM is the amount of memory you get. The iPhone 5 also features 1GB of RAM. Storage space on Apple’s smartphone means the following: 16, 32 and 64GB. On the other hand, its rival only comes with 32GB internal memory. However, the phone is able to accepts up to 32GB memory cards.
The battery on the iPhone 5 is a Li-Po 1440mAh with 5.45 Wh. The Maxx HD uses a Li-Ion 3300mAh battery. Testing the two smartphones proved that the Droid Razr Maxx HD lasted for a longer period of time overall.
The action of sharing different files using the gadgets or the phone is something gadget lovers want their own handset to do. Because this means that your phone is able to show all kinds of content. The iPhone 5 makes sharing a very easy and comfortable experience. You can share different files or applications using the phone and a compatible Apple device live a computer or a TV. The Razr Maxx HD uses the help of HDMI and DLNA to make that possible. It all works seamlessly in the end.
Applications are many on both the Maxx HD and the iPhone 5. And you can add many more from their respective app markets. It should be noted that you have access to many more multimedia apps if you choose the Motorola offering.
The camera
Cameras-wise, the two phones use the same 8 megapixel sensor. But what differentiates them is the fact that the software and hardware on the Razr Maxx HD are not as good as the ones featured on the iPhone 5. Which makes it clear that Apple’s newest handset wins this battle for now.
At the end of the day, it’s all a matter of personal preference. Some will love the iPhone 5, some will prefer, instead, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD. Check both of them out and decide for yourself.
