Install Jelly Bean 4.3 CyanogenMod 10.2 custom ROM on Galaxy S4 M919
If you’ve always found it hard to update your Galaxy S4 M919 (T-Mobile variant) to Android 4.3 CyanogenMod 10.2 custom ROM, then hopefully you will find our tutorial easier to handle.
Requirements
Here are those requirements without which no tutorial will ever go well:
- root the smartphone;
- find TWRP or CWM Recovery and flash it on the device;
- turn on USB Debugging;
- install the USB Drivers that are appropriate for the Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 on your notebook;
- create a backup (or as many as you think are required);
- charge your phone’s battery unit.
How to flash CM10.2 on Galaxy S4
- Should have already read and performed the requirements above, then you are ready to update your handset. This process will officially start from the moment you download the (file name: cm-10.2-20130814-NIGHTLY-jfltetmo.zip) on the notebook you have at hand.
- After this particular file is downloaded there, you should plug the handset to the PC; as tool, you can use the USB cord that belongs to your Samsung M919. Then make sure the file that’s on the PC gets moved to the phone’s SD card root. In preparation for the next step, we advise you to shut your handset off.
- Here is the next step we mentioned: boot the Galaxy S4 M919 into Recovery Mode by first powering it on and at the same time pressing + holding Home, Volume Up and Power.
- This is the moment when you should see a “!” pop up on the display; which tells you that you should hold only Volume Up + Power and your device will boot into that mode.
- After the Recovery Mode is on the screen, you have to do a full NANDroid backup. The way we did that was by choosing “Backup&Restore” in the beginning; then we continued by doing this: opting for “Backup”.
- Go back to the Recovery Menu and choose, for starters, this option: “Factory reset/Wipe data“. Then confirm this and choose “Install zip from SD card“.
- Move on by opting for “Choose zip from SD card” and then choose the Android 4.3 CM10.2 ROM to be flashed on your handset; this option has to be chosen with “Power” and, after you have pressed this key, you should confirm the procedure.
- The flashing of the file used for this upgrade will need a couple of minutes to end. When it does as such, you can return to your phone’s Recovery Menu.
- Before you can reboot the device, you need to opt for “Wipe Dalvik cache“, an option which is in the phone’s “Advance”.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]Now reboot the phone like we told you to by choosing the option called “Restart your device”. Once some minutes have passed, you can go to “About Phone” from “Settings” and look for the Jelly Bean 4.3 CyanogenMod 10.2 custom ROM.
NOTE: If the phone was better off with its old ROM, you will be able to return the Galaxy S4 M919 to that tool by performing the following tasks: boot the handset into Recovery Mode, choose the “Backup & Restore” option and see if there is a list on the display; if there is one, look your old ROM up and opt for it.
In case of issues, the NANDroid backup will help you get your smartphone to the features, settings and such which were present on it before the upgrade.
