How to Install Android 4.4.2 XXUCNE6 on Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195 Black Edition

Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195 (Black Edition) has new stuff to expect from an upgrade. Among them: features and superior battery life. If your device lacks any of this, Android 4.4.2 KitKat will come to the rescue!

Launched this month, the Android 4.4.2 XXUCNE6 is very much official firmware. If your phone is the Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195, you live in Belgium and use Proximus as the handset’s carrier, you’re very much set to perform our guide.

Because the latest firmware that’ll update your device is aimed at this phone, stay away from another model to avoid bricking it. To have the new firmware on your smartphone, you’ll need stock ROM if you plan on using OTA. The latter will work on your handset because there’s no activated KIES logo on this firmware.

The novelties

If you’re ready to find out what you get if you update your phone, we’ll give you the most important additions. After the firmware’s installed, get ready to customize your device via many tweaks and experience new root-only apps. The smartphone is going to sport battery tweaks and also have a faster CPU. New features are also delivered.

If you’re upgrading the smartphone when there’s root access on it, you’ll end up with an unrooted device. Moreover, the phone will say good-bye to its system partition, too. Prerequisites

You will need to take a look at these necessary requirements:

  • your personal laptop has to sport Windows for this specific procedure;
  • turn off the security programs flashed on the Samsung I9195;
  • the laptop’s security programs have to be deactivated now;
  • fully charge the smartphone;
  • have a bunch of standard backups created for the phone’s important data;
  • create, next, a full NANDroid backup;
  • install, on your laptop, USB drivers for the handset;
  • turn on USB Debugging on the phone.

Step by step instructions

You’re now face-to-face with the first step that starts everything.

  1. To kick it off: download two packages on your laptop. One of them is this: the (file name: I9195XXUCNE6_I9195YPRCNE2_PRO.zip). The other is Odin v3.09, available here.
  2. Then choose an unzipping method (WinRar, for example) and use it to extract what you just downloaded. The result of these procedures will be some files.
  3. One of them is Odin3 v3.09.exe. This file must be launched on the laptop for the next step. Be sure to have the smartphone booted into Download Mode. The mode your device should be in is reached like this: press and simultaneously hold Home, Power and Volume Down.
  4. When a boot message appears on the display, stop and instead press this button: Volume Up. The next step asks you to provide a connection between the phone and the laptop.
  5. Your smartphone’s USB cable should be used for the plugging. Odin is going to look for the Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9195 after you use this cord.
  6. After a few minutes of waiting, a connection will happen; this will be shown by a blue sign revealed by Odin. Coming up next: add the firmware file to AP / PDA and wait for a bunch of boxes to appear on the screen.
  7. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are a couple of them; check them both. Deactivate the one box called Re-partition.
  8. You should then have “Start“ tapped. By tapping this, the new KitKat firmware will end up on your smartphone. The firmware’s installation is going to require some 13 minutes. If 15 minutes are over and the firmware hasn’t been flashed, repeat the guide.
  9. If, however, your phone displays a “Pass“ message in a green background, you’ll know that you’re half way there. The only thing to wait up for now is this: the handset’s rebooting.
  10. When this occurs, you can go ahead and do this: take out the USB cord. If this cable’s removed, your devices won’t share a connection anymore.

If you’ve tested them out and you’d much prefer the old ROM, return to the NANDroid backup file and use it. The old ROM will then come back on the smartphone. In exchange for this, you’ll no longer have an update on your device.
