Update HTC Rezound to Android 4.0.4 ICS using CyanogenMod 9
If you’re big on using various custom ROMs to upgrade a gadget to the latest operating system created by Google, here’s another one we will talk about. This one is aimed at the HTC Rezound.
The name of the custom ROM which can update HTC’s Rezound to the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich is CyanogenMod 9. While it is very easy to install and use, you have to remember that it is not something issued by someone official. That’s why you can experience some problems along with bugs.
Requirements
Look out for the following requirements before you start installing the CyanogenMod 9. Your HTC Rezound needs to have one of the following: S-ON or S-OFF with an unlocked bootloader, the handset needs to be fully charged, you have to download AmonRa Recovery (a file called ), GApps for CyanogenMod 9 (a file called ), , then make a complete backup.
Here’s how to install the AmonRa Recovery if it is not on the smartphone. First give a different name to the AmonRa-PH98IMG.zip: call it PH98IMG.zip. Then download all these files into the root of the internal memory card of your phoneand switch the handset off. Next simultaneously select at the same time the buttons for Volume up / Down and Power. When the phone starts and the Bootloader Mode begins to work, the bootloader is going to find the right file.
Once it locates it, it will start the installation process. This is followed by the rebooting of the phone. When this is over, you have to erase the file located on the memory card. Now you will need to go on with the steps needed for the flashing of the custom ROM.
Important instructions for AmonRa recovery installation
If the smartphone comes with S-ON, you need to follow different steps.
- The first one: .
- For step 2 you have to give a different name to the file you downloaded: PH98IMG.zip. Then download this file into the phone memory card.
- Step 3: move the Google Apps pack and the CyanogenMod 9 ROM to the phone SD card.
- Once you are done along comes step 4, for which you have to turn the device off, then boot into HBOOt with the same method: keep pressed at the same time these two buttons: Volume Down and Power.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]For the fifth step you have to choose the option caller Recovery. To do that, you must press the Volume key. Then choose this option you will access the AmonRa Recovery mode; use the key for Power to do it. Next up you need to make a backup of the current ROM by opting for Backup/Restore.
- The next step, number 6, is to choose Wipe. This wipes the phone’s system, data and cache. After that return to the menu.
- For step 7 you have to choose to flash the archive from the internal SD card; next flash the CyanogenMod 9 ROM file.
- The step to follow next is number 8, which says you have to restart the Rezound to HBOOT and apply the PH98IMG.zip file.
- Last step: opt to restart the entire system again.
And with number 9 you are done. Now, should you experience parsing errors, simply extract the boot image (.img) from the archive file. At the end, you can flash the file, manually, using the Fastboot option.
Instructions for S-ON model
Should your handset feature S-OFF, below is what you will need to do in this case.
- First step: copy the Google Apps pack and the CyanogenMod 9 ROM to the HTC Rezound SD card. This should be followed by the switching off of the phone and booting in the ClockworkMod recovery mode.
- For step 2 you need to employ the keys for Volume.
- In step 3 you have to find Recovery, choose it (with the help of the button for Power) and make a backup of the current ROM. The latter is done by opting for Backup/Restore.
- The fourth step requires you, once the backup is over, to get back to the recovery menu and choose the Wipe option.
- Step 5 has to do with the confirmation of what you just did. This is going to wipe all your handset’s data.
- For step 6 you have to get back to the main menu. Once there, opt to flash the archive from the internal memory card. You must choose to opt to flash the CyanogenMod 9 ROM.
- Now follow step 6 again and flash the GApps package.
- The last step is number 8: opt for Reboot system now. This restarts the device and you get to experience the CyanogenMod 9.
