How to Update Galaxy Pocket Plus GT-S5301 to Android 4.0.4 XXANB1

The novelties that come with Android 4.0.4 are all great for your Galaxy Pocket Plus GT-S5301. We’ll reveal all of them in this update tutorial, so don’t go anywhere!

The Samsung S5301 is the handset which will get updated to the Android 4.0.4 ICS today. The official firmware we will use for this procedure just came out for the Nordic countries. It’s called XXANB1 and we’ll show you how to install it on your handset.

There are many ways to upgrade a device. If you like using Samsung’s KIES, you can do that for your smartphone: the KIES logo of this new firmware comes activated. But you need to make sure that your handset comes with stock ROM. If it doesn’t, you can use our guide instead.

The novelties

Once you decide on using this guide, you should know a couple of things beforehand. On a rooted Galaxy Pocket Plus, the XXANB1 will wreak havoc. That means the following: there won’t be root access on your device and its system partition will be deleted. Also, make sure you use the correct model for our tutorial; if a wrong model is updated our way, you will damage it.

Root access may no longer be on your smartphone, but the internal and external SD cards won’t get affected. Neither will your phone’s most important data.

Finally, here are the novelties you’ll get to enjoy after the update. The list starts with an improved cam and superior phone number recognition. Screen rotation is also so much better than in the past. Other goodies include various new features, security improvements and new features. On the whole, your phone will deliver a faster and better performance.Galaxy-Pocket-Plus-GT-S5301L

Prerequisites

If you want the update badly, you must first take care of some preparations. Which come in the form of these requirements:

  • it’s always a good idea to save your phone’s data, so create several backups;
  • a full NANDroid backup needs to be performed, too;
  • charge the battery running inside your smartphone;
  • turn off all of your phone’s and your notebook’s security solutions;
  • enable, on the Galaxy Pocket Plus GT-S5301, that option labelled USB Debugging;
  • your notebook must have USB drivers meant for the handset, so download them from this place;
  • the laptop you use must operate Windows.

Step by step instructions

  1. And now, make sure you start the update with this: download, from here, Odin v3.09 on your notebook. To download the Android 4.0.4 XXANB1 for your country on the same notebook, we suggest .
  2. Now that your device has the necessary packages downloaded and saved on it, time for an unzipping. Extract the two via one of the following: WinZip or 7Zip. Launch Odin next.
  3. Having done that, enter your Galaxy Pocket Plus GT-S5301 in Download Mode with this method: keep pressing and holding Home, Power and Volume Down at the same time, then see if a boot message comes up; when it does, complete this step by pressing Volume Up.
  4. Connect your handset to your notebook for the next step via your smartphone’s USB cord. Wait while the plugging does its thing, then, when the process ends, see whether or not the Odin shows you a blue sign.
  5. If you see it, you can move on. Do that by adding the firmware file from its initial place to a new one, which is AP / PDA.
  6. Your next job is this one: tick only F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot. Uncheck Re-partition should this box be ticked by default. In order to have the new firmware featured on your phone, you should tap “Start“. A couple of minutes will have to pass before the flashing ends.
  7. Now wait for a message in green to pop up. The screen should say “PASS“. When you spot this message, our recommendation for the next step is this: wait for a rebooting from your Galaxy Pocket Plus GT-S5301.
  8. [sc name=”banner-jos”]As soon as the handset is done with the rebooting, make sure you remove the USB cable from your devices and wait until they’re not plugged to one another. When they aren’t, access Settings on your handset, tap About Phone and the XXANB1 should appear on the touchscreen.

After making sure it’s there on your smartphone, you can have a go at it. That’s to see if you like it or not. If the old ROM looked and acted better, go and have it restore with the help of the NANDroid backup.
