Samsung unveils Galaxy S and Galaxy Y Duos versions
That was about time: Samsung finally comes with Galaxy S and Galaxy Y Duos to the Indian market.
The two above are both smartphones. But not any kind of smartphone, mind you. They are of the dual SIM kind. And we will describe each of them in order. We chose the Galaxy Y Duos one first.
Its actual name is Galaxy Y Duos Lite. This one might seem familiar as it is the Indian version of the popular Galaxy Pocket Duos. Compared to its sibling, this model is not as evolved. But it offers a good performance nonetheless. The operating system is the Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. The amount of internal storage space is 3GB. Which, in itself, is great, considering that it costs only Rs. 6990 (which means €100). The main SIM card here can only support the 3G technology. The processor is a 832MHz, so the user is not going to be able to do a lot of multitasking. The camera on this model is a 2MP one. The touchscreen is 2.8″; its resolution is QVGA. The total of RAM can be around 512MB or less.
Now we will move on to the other smartphone, the one called Galaxy S Duos. This one will cost you Rs. 17900 (€256). The phone sports the following specs: a 5 MP camera (that is to be found on its rear), 768MB of RAM, a 4″ TFT LCD touchscreen (with a WVGA resolution), a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A5 processor, and an Adreno 200 GPU.

But the surprise is the operating system: the S Duos has the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS on it. Probably because there’s support for 4G on this phone compared to the 3G on the Galaxy Y Duos Lite. Besides the standard dual SIM functionality, this device also offers the possibility to enjoy the benefits of Smart Dual SIM. This technology means taking calls from one of the SIM cards and keep the other one active. Each one of the SIM cards gets 3G support. And data connectivity, too. Which is, of course, great to have on any smartphone these days. If you are in Europe, €256 is the same price you will have to pay for this model.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S Lite and the Galaxy Y Duos Lite can already be bought in India by consumers who appreciate this company and their gadgets. It remains to be seen if their performances will be worthy of the manufacturer’s popularity or not.
