Root and Flash ClockworkMod Recovery on HTC Evo Shift 4G

Based on popular opinion, HTC has registered quite a success with their Evo Shift 4G smartphone so far. Which was to be expected. But enough of that, we are here for something else than praising this handset. More exactly: we want to teach you how to root and flash ClockworkMod Recovery on it. So keep your eyes pealed on the guide we prepared just for you.

But first, some elementary stuff before we tell you what’s required of you for the actual procedure. Set Android Debug Bridge up if it’s not already, , use a comp that has the proverbial Windows OS running on it, save the messages and make backups.

How to root HTC Evo Shift 4G

  1. Step 1: unzip the ShiftRR.rar archive to a dedicated directory on your laptop. Now double-click on ShiftRR.exe and activate the USB Debugging (on the handset, that is) by accessing the Settings, then Applications and finally select USB Debugging and activate it.
  2. Step 2: perform a connection between the phone and the laptop and wait till you see something like “HTC Shift Found!“. Now click on root on your Evo Shift 4G and look for message; the latter will verify if the ENG HBoot is present on your smartphone. Click Yes if it is and No if it isn’t.

  4. Step 4: after the reboot, you will have to tap on Root and then on Yes. If you see Root Success appear on the touchscreen, then the process went according to plan.
  5. Step 5: it’s now safe to reboot the phone and tap on Check Root.
  6. Step 6: opt for Accept or Allow next. Which ends our method of rooting the phone.

How to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery

Let’s now move on to the second part: how to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery.

  1. Start off by connecting your smartphone to your laptop, run Shift Root and Recovery and tap on the key for browse when you’re in the Recovery section.
  2. Step 2: go to the folder that was extracted earlier.
  3. Step 3: opt for, once there, shift_clockwork_recovery.img. All that is left now is to click on Install and the HTC Evo Shift 4G is going to restart to the ClockworkMod Recovery tool.
