HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy S3

We find ourselves with another war among gadgets. This time between the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Below you will find comparisons we made between them.

The first of them has to do with measurements and weight. While the HTC One X is 134 mm x 70 mm x 8.9 mm and has a weight of 130g, the Galaxy S3 measures 136.6 mm x 70.6 mm x 8.6 mm and weighs 133g. In short: the One X is thinner than its rival. And lighter, too. As for design, both of these smartphones look superb. But HTC’s wins a couple of points thanks to its more durable body. And because the Galaxy S3 has a plastic surface which doesn’t look like it can resist damage. But, compared to the One X, it has a pro: you can access its battery easily and replace them with others.

The specifications

As for processors, the two smartphones feature the same quad-core one. However, Samsung with its dual-core TI OMAP Exynos 4412 quad-core 1.5GHz performs better than the Tegra 3 chip on the One X.

Moving on now to the displays, we noticed that the one on the 4.7″ Super IPS on the One X was overall better than the 4.7″ Super AMOLED on the Galaxy S3. Yes, touchscreens with AMOLED on them are known to offer great quality when used in places with dark light. However, IPS displays offers more vitality to the content. Along with better reproduction of colors. The resolution on both of the screens is the same: 720p.

In the camera department, each of the devices has something that makes it good for picture snapping and video shooting. Take, for instance, the HTC One X: the advanced photo features it ships with are all very welcome and work well. But then the Galaxy S3 comes along with a burst mode, excellent details in photos and an 8MP sensor that works wonders.htc-one-x-vs--galaxy-s3

The UIs are different. The one on Samsung’s latest smartphone seems the best out of the two. Because it sports a voice recognition software that reminds everybody of Apple’s Siri. And this device also features an S Beam that works like a combo of Wi-Fi and NFC. And it comes with another pro: if you want to send the Galaxy S3 into standby mode without having to interrupt yourself from something, the phone will look for your face and go into standby. But then again, the user interface on the One X makes it more fun to unlock the device. The only thing the user has to do is to use his or her voice and the phone will recognize it and switch itself on. Not to mention that the UI on the One X just looks better.

The internal storage

Memory and storage space-wise, the two smartphones deliver different numbers. The HTC One X has 1GB of RAM and 16/32GB. And there is no way to expand those, because there is no microSD card. Compared to this, the Galaxy S3 boasts 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Add to this a microSD slot and this phone is more generous and compelling.

Media possibilities with these devices are different. The One X is more limited from this point of view. Still, it has a microUSB port. The latter makes it easy to output both audio and video content. You aren’t offered support for other types of videos than the default and limited ones. On the other hand, the Galaxy S3 is definitely more generous in this domain, too. Decoding 1080p videos is one of its advantages. And there is a microSD slot to use, too. The support it offers is for audio files such as FLAC and OGG. You will not need a third-party media player; that’s because this phone is capable of playing DivX, Xvid, MKV and so on.

The price

The price tags for each of the smartphones compared here will be another factor to consider when deciding for either the Galaxy S3 or the One X. While the former requires $549 without a contract, the latter costs $800 (again, without a contract). If you want them with a contract, it will cost you starting from$ 549.99. To get either phone on a contract, you’ll have to pay at least $56.76 monthly (but the Samsung Galaxy S3 will come cheaper pretty soon).

Hopefully you have already managed to decide on what smartphone to buy out of the two compared here. If not, maybe this article will help you do it.
