HTC One Vs Samsung Galaxy S4 – The Specs Comparison
If you’re a fan of HTC, then you’ll probably love their new One smartphone. If, however, you prefer Samsung, then you’ll more than likely love their latest Galaxy S4 that was just announced today.
But who knows, maybe after you read our comparison post today, you might switch camps. Here are the advantages and the disadvantages of each of these smartphones.
The design
What first strikes someone when looking at a handset is its design. Out of these two devices, the HTC One wins in this category. That’s because it features round cornered edges and a body made of full metal. Its weight is 143 g.
The material makes sure that the phone doesn’t end up in pieces if dropped on the floor. In the other corner we have the 130 g Galaxy S4 which, sadly, still has a body made of plastic, just like the S3. 
You’ll have to be careful when handling this model, just like you have to be careful with the S3. While the One smartphone is 9.3 mm thick, its rival is 7.9 mm thick. Either way, none of these two phones will make it harder for their owners to carry them around.
The battery and the display
The battery that the HTC One will ship with is a 2,330 mAh one. The Galaxy S4 will come with a 2,600 mAh unit. This means that the battle in this category is won by the South Korean manufacturer’s newest device. Its kind of battery will offer many hours of listening to your favorite songs, 3G gaming and so on.
Let’s see what each of these handsets has to offer when it comes to touchscreen. The Galaxy S4 has a 5″ Super AMOLED HD display packing 1080 x 1920 pixels. The density is 441 ppi, which isn’t as generous as what the HTC One brings on the market.
On the other hand, HTC’s One sports a smaller screen: a 4.7″ full HD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. There are 468 ppi in total.
What Samsung brings new to the table is its Smart Pause feature; in a nutshell: the device is able to track your eyes while you’re looking at a clip on it and pause the content whenever you look somewhere else. Scrolling through something happens when you tilt the S4 up/down. Content looks excellent on both displays.
The CPU and the OS
The processor used for the HTC One is an 1.6 Octa-Core one. The CPU that’s on the Galaxy S4 is made of the following: four 1.6 GHZ Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7s cores. In other words: the Samsung phone will be faster than the HTC one.
How about the operating system? The HTC will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, while the HTC One chose Android 4.1.2. Dropbox and a multi-view mode offered by the OS on the S4 are both great features to have. The user interface incorporated on each of the devices works very well.
Samsung Galaxy S4 offers the following in terms of memory and internal storage: 2GB of RAM, a slot dedicated to to the the internal memory expansion, and 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal storage. The HTC one delivers 2 GB DDR2, the same 16/32/64 GB and no external SD card slot.
The camera

The front camera on the Galaxy S4 is a 13MP one. One of the greatest things about it: it can read gestures made by the user’s hands. Another advantage of this cam is the fact that you can see yourself in the pic that you’re snapping (and insert yourself in it).
The 2.1 MP and the 4 MP shooters on the HTC One are also superb, thanks to their generous sensors. When tested, each cam performed very well; photos and videos looked excellent in both ideal and low light conditions.
Conclusion
These being said, it remains to be seen how much the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 will cost. You can already buy the HTC model, but the S4 will have to wait one more month.
