How to Flash Android 4.2.2 XWUAMG1 on Galaxy S4 Zoom SM-C101

Galaxy S4 Zoom SM-C101 has made quite a name for itself thanks to its unique concept. But what this smartphone with a zoom camera deserves is Android 4.2.2 the latest version. South Africa is the last country to receive new official firmware called XWUAMG1 via which this device is going to be updated to the OS version it needs.

If you live in South Africa and you use Vodafone as your handset’s carrier, then be ready to have the new firmware flashed on it. If you use a smartphone which is not the Galaxy S4 Zoom C101, your device will be bricked.

The KIES logo isn’t activated on this update file. Because of this, you won’t be able to use Samsung’s KIES. Your only two options are OTA with the Software Update button under Settings menu (the device must have a stock ROM installed on it already) and our guide.

Having the new version of Jelly Bean on your device, you are about to have a taste of a USB debug white-list, a new set of sounds for wireless charging and low battery bug fixes, no Bluetooth audio streaming bugs, the possibility to long-press the WiFi and Bluetooth icons in Quick Settings so that you can easily toggle the on/off state, a new Gallery app with superior speed when loading and a whole new set of download notifications.

On the other hand, the smartphone will have to pay a price for being updated if it’s rooted. After the tutorial is over and your device features the Android 4.2.2, you will find yourself in these situations: root access shall be revoked and system partition shall be deleted. Mos importantly, though, your handset’s crucial data and its internal/external SD cards will not run the risk of sharing the same fate.Galaxy-S4-Zoom-SM-C101

Prerequisites

Requirements:

  • your notebook must be running USB drivers that work only with the Galaxy S4 Zoom SM-C101;
  • don’t use this guide on a laptop that doesn’t come with Windows on-board;
  • fully charge the battery inside your smartphone;
  • the security software pre-installed on the notebook and the phone must be disabled as long as you’re following our guide;
  • to make sure all your phone’s data is saved, create backups (a normal and a full NANDroid one, made with this tutorial);
  • also, be sure to have USB Debugging turned on.

Step by step instructions

  1. For the first step, you will need to download the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 XWUAMG1 (the South Africa version is available , the Turkey version , the Thailand version is available and the Baltic countries version can be downloaded ) and Odin from this page on the notebook. Have patience until both packages are downloaded on the laptop, then be sure they’re fully saved before unzipping them with WinZip or WinRar.
  2. For the next step, your smartphone should be entered into Download Mode using this method: simultaneously press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home.
  3. Move on by opening, on the notebook, the Odin as an Admin, followed by this task: create, with the phone’s USB cord, a connection between the handset and your laptop.
  4. If the plugging goes well, you should expect the following to pop up on the screen: a message that reads as “Added!!” and a yellow ID:COM box. The connection may refuse to happen, so install the USB drivers again or use another USB port.
  5. We will now need you to do this: click on BL, choose a file with BL in the name, click on AP, opt for a file with AP in the name, tap CP, opt for a file with CP in its name, tap CSC, choose a file which has CSC in the name, tap PIT and choose a file with an extension called .pit.
  6. Continue with this step: check Re-partition, F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot before you begin the installation of the new firmware.
  7. Speaking of which: tap “Start” to make that happen. A couple of minutes will have to pas till the firmware is flashed on the Galaxy S4 Zoom SM-C101.
  8. When this procedure is over, your smartphone shall reboot. When it does that and you also see “Pass” on the screen, you will need to unplug the devices.
  9. [sc name=”banner-jos”]If you’ve done that already, go to Settings on your phone, then do as follows: find the new firmware by tapping About Phone.

The XWUAMG1 is a tool that may not appeal to you after you’re done experimenting with it. If so, get ready to use the NANDroid backup file in order to restore the old ROM on the handset. By doing as such, you will see that the upgrade procedure is revoked soon after.
