HTC Evo 4G has been on our list of what devices to update next for a while now. This guide finds us telling you how to bring Android 4.2.2 on the handset with SlimBean PIE Build 4.2.
How about a taste of some features? What you can experience with this firmware is a dashclock, improved auto-brightness user interface, Init.d support and many more.
Requirements
Here are various requirements: charge the battery of the HTC Evo 4G Supersonic, make a backup using our guide (including of the internal memory data), use a phone that is fully unlocked, flash USB Drivers for the device on your laptop and then turn on USB debugging.
Important instructions
- For step one, your action must include the download of the and on your PC. Then plug the phone to the laptop.
- Step two: copy the zip files from step 1 to the smartphone’s memory card, then unplug the devices from each other after the files are transferred.
- Power the Evo 4G off and boot it into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding, together, Volume Down and Power; when you’re in HBoot menu, opt for Recovery and you’re set.
- For step four you should select Factory Reset/Wipe Data and afterwards Yes; now your handset has its data wiped. You have to afterwards go to the ClockWorkMod Recovery Menu to be able to opt for Wipe Cache Partition.
- Step five will show you the following tasks: choose Wipe Dalvik Cache after you have accessed an option called Advance.
- The sixth step to follow once you gave operated both of the tasks from earlier looks like this: opt for Install zip from SD card, select Choose zip from SD card and, after you find the SlimBean PIE Build 4.2 archive, choose it by pressing the button called Power.
- Step seven will ask you to confirm this and then to wait for the flashing of the ROM.
- Step eight is the one to follow next and it asks you to go back to steps six and 7 to repeat what you did there; be careful to choose the Slim Bean Gapps and not the other one. Return to the Recovery Menu of your handset so that you can opt for the system restarting.
- Step nine will allow the Evo 4G to reboot into the SlimBean PIE Build 4.2.

More often than not, users will experience boot loops and other such issues. Our advice to them: perform both a wipe cache partition and a complete phone’s Wipe Dalvik cache a couple of times. When done: restart the HTC Evo 4G. But if you see an error which reads “Status 7“, different tasks apply; here they are: install a compatible kernel, then flash the SlimBean PIE Build 4.2.
If you face no problems, though, then you might want to return to your phone’s old ROM. We recommend these actions: boot the handset into Recovery, opt for Backup&Restore and see if there is any list on the device’s display showing the name of your favorite ROM. If it is, then choose it.
