Update Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 to Jelly Bean 4.1 using XXDLH8 Firmware
Getting the newest operating system from Google, namely the 4.1 Jelly Bean version, is a piece of cake. How so? Because the firmware that brings this OS to Samsung’s Galaxy S3 was recently leaked.
The name of this firmware is XXDLH8. It is not the official one, so it still has problems. But other than that, it works just fine. If you install it correctly on your phone.
Requirements
Before doing that, though, make sure your smartphone is the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. Because the XXDLH8 is only good for this model. After that save what is on the device’s SD card. The files need to be imported to a laptop or a computer.
Another requirement before installing the leaked firmware is this: sync the Phone contacts with your Gmail account. Then fully charge the phone. Next: create a backup of crucial files and of the APN Settings. The laptop or PC you use has to have KIES installed on it, but it’s not a must.
Instead of it you can install manually a couple of USB drivers, the likes of USB Drivers for Windows X64 (the 64bit version) or USB drivers for Windows X86 (the 32bit version).
Important instructions
Below are the steps needed for the proper installation of the firmware.
- First: pick up the XXDLH Firmware necessary files from .
- Second step is to unzip the archive that comes with the files. The files that should appear after that is done are these: .tar.md5 and odin.zip. Then you have to do another extraction, this time of the ODIN.zip archive; this will offer you the ODIN installation file. After you’re done, these should be put in a folder.
- Third step: you will maybe not see the ODIN in the zip archive. No problem: if you go , you will find it. Then you have to extract it; because it will offer the ODIN installation kit.
- In step 4 you need to switch the phone off; the display will turn itself on.
- The fifth step is to simultaneously hold and press the Home, Volume down and Power keys. The touchscreen will come to life again. That is the cue to let go of the keys mentioned before. You have to then press the button for Volume up. This action will boot the phone into the Download Mode.
- For step 6 you need to return to a laptop, because you will have to run the ODIN installation kit.
- Step seven: connect the phone to a computer via a USB cable. You will then see a message on the latter’s display: “added!!” (if that does not happen, insert the USB cable into the necessary USB port; if this also doesn’t work, you must install once again the Samsung drivers for USB port).
- The eighth step is to click on PDA once you are in ODIN. Your laptop should feature a XXDLH8_I9300OXADLH8_I9300XXLH8_HOME.tar.md5 file, necessary for the latest firmware update. The latter needs to be loaded. After that go back to ODIN.
- [sc name=”banner-jos”]Remember to keep ODIN’s default settings always (re-partition should not be checked; if it is, uncheck it).
- In the next step you have to select the START key in ODIN. This will start the installation of the XXDLH8 Jelly Bean 4.1 firmware update on the Galaxy S3 I9300.
- Step eleven: the phone will reboot after it completes step 10. Once the screen appears, this message should be there: PASS. Unplug the device from the laptop you used after the boot logo of the phone appears.
- When you see that the Samsung logo appears you can disconnect the device from the computer.
- The final step of the process is this: the phone will reboot once again and welcome you to the Jelly Bean OS and all of its offerings.
At any time during the update process to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean you may run into trouble. If, for instance, you see PASS and the device restarts but it encounters a boot loop, do a Factory Reset after following the steps here:
- Turn the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 off. Then keep pressed and hold Volume up, Home and Power at the same time; after the display comes to life, don’t press them anymore. This action means that the phone will go into a starting into the Custom Recovery mode.
- Once there, selecting something is done by using the buttons for Power and Home; highlighting options is done via the key for Volume.
- Next step is to choose Factory reset/Wipe data; then you have to confirm this action.
- This is followed by the come back to the custom recovery menu.
- When you are there, you need to opt for restarting the entire system.
- The final step is to watch as your device reboots. And that will bring everything back to normal.Should you notice that the phone doesn’t reply anymore to commands, close ODIN, disconnect the phone from the laptop, take the battery out and put it back in.
- After that you have to turn the phone on when you are in the Download Mode. Then put the device in contact to a computer.
- Follow our steps once more from step 7 onward and at the end of the process you will have the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean installed on your device.
