Flash ParanoidAndroid ROM for the HTC One S
Owners of the HTC One S, here’s good news for you. There is a way to flash the ParanoidAndroid ROM for this handset. And it’s completely free.
Another member of the very helpful XDA Developers forum created a custom ROM which can flash the ParanoidAndroid ROM to HTC’s One S, the model with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU. Even if it isn’t an official version and comes with the invariable bugs, this solution is the best we’ve seen. Whenever you may encounter a problem, you can get help via the support it provides.
Requirements
The elements that you have to make sure are on your handset before you install the custom ROM are not that many. First you have to make a backup. Then fully charge the HTC One S. After you are done with these two actions, check if the device has the following: an unlocked bootloader and ClockworkMod Recovery. Use a comp that has the Windows operating system on it.
Then get these files: , , Fastboot () and ParanoidAndroid ROM for the HTC One S ().
Finally, find a program which extracts archive files. The best options would be either WinZip or 7-Zip.
Once you are done with the requirements we laid down above, here are the exact steps you must follow if you wish to be successful in your attempt to flash ParanoidAndroid ROM to your phone.
Important instructions
- First step is to make sure you copy the ROM archive file and the GApps pack to the internal memory card of your device. Then open your PC, locate the Fastboot ZIP file and launch it. That should be followed by the moving of all the files to the C partition, in a dedicated directory. Don’t forget to unzip all the files.
- Step 2: give this file the name of Fastboot.
- For step 3 you have to launch the ROM’s ZIP file. When you are done with that, just extract boot.img.
- Step 4 instructs the following action: move the resulted image file to the Fastboot folder in C partition. At the end you must switch the phone off.
- Next step, the fifth one, needs you to boot, after you turned the phone off, into Bootloader Mobile. That is effortlessly done once you hold the buttons for Volume Down and Power pressed at the same time.
- In step 6 you have to choose the Recovery option that you will see on the phone display. To do that, press the Volume buttons. Then choose Recovery by pressing the key for Power.
- The seventh step instructs you to opt for Backup and Restore. You then have to select Backup.
- Step 8: return to the phone’s recovery menu.
- For step 9 you need to do the following: choose Factory Reset/Wipe data. At the next step you have to confirm what you just did.
- The next step, which is number 10, you need to choose Wipe cache partition. This action also has to be confirmed. After you confirmed it, opt for Advanced, then Wipe Dalvik cache, which need to be confirmed, too.
- Step 11: choose to install the ZIP archive using the SD card, then Choose ZIP from SD card.

- Steps 11 and 12 need to be done all over again; this is required for step 13, in which you have to install the Google Apps like you did in those steps we just mentioned.
- Step 14: switch the device off, then enter in the Bootloader Mode.
- Along comes step 15, which tells you to choose Fastboot Mode next, then connect the PC and the smartphone together.
- In step 16 you will see FASTBOOT USB on the display. Once you see that, use your computer and run the entire process as Administrator using command prompt.
- For step 17 do this: enter this command cd c:Fastboot, fastboot devices, fastboot flash boot boot.img. The fastboot devices command will show the serial number of the HTC One S. If everything goes well, you will see Finished/Okay on the screen.
- The last step is this one: enter Fastboot reboot and, after the handset reboots,disconnect the PC and the One S from it.
