Update Galaxy Win GT-I8558 to Android 4.2.2 ZMUAMI3 Official Firmware

Galaxy Win GT-I8558, officially released in May last year, is scheduled for an update to Android 4.2.2 ZMUAMI3 stock firmware launched in September this year for the Chinese version of this handset.

This firmware’s tool is not KIES activated, so you won’t be able to get the upgrade via Samsung’s KIES. Instead, our guide or OTA (the Software Update button under Settings menu) should be tried out.

Also, keep in mind that the phone must run a custom ROM for the update to be effective. Likewise, the device you use must be the Galaxy Win I8558; if you want to upgrade a different variant than this one, you will only brick your handset.

The new Jelly Bean stock firmware, once installed on your smartphone, will bring lots of goodies, such as bug fixes, new download notifications, USB debug white-list, new sounds for wireless charging and low battery, long-pressing the WiFi and Bluetooth icons in Quick Settings will toggle the on/off state, new Gallery app which makes for faster loading and fixed Bluetooth audio streaming bugs.

If you’ve subjected your smartphone to a rooting, the new firmware will delete the system partition of your phone and the latter’s root access will become revoked; note that the important data on your device will not be deleted and the internal and external SD cards will remain untouched.

  1. The very first step to follow states the following: unzip the two packages you just downloaded on your laptop; make sure they are extracted in the desktop of your device.
  2. Now be sure to boot the Galaxy Win GT-8558 in Download Mode by pressing and holding, at the same time, Volume Down, Home and Power, then press only Volume Up.
  3. Once your phone is booted into this Download Mode, do this: open the Odin as Admin on the notebook or comp. Then take the phone’s USB cable. The cord is needed so that the handset and the laptop are plugged to each other and you can move on to the next step.
  4. But if the devices fail to establish a connection, you can have that connection happen by flashing the USB drivers again or using another USB port if you don’t spot an “Added!!” message or a yellow ID:Com box after you’ve first plugged the two devices to one another.
  5. After the previous step is successful, you should move on by clicking on PDA, selecting a file with CODE in the name, clicking on Phone, choosing a file with MODEM in the name, tapping CSC, opting for a file with CSC in the name, tapping PIT and selecting a file with a .pit extension.
  6. Soon you will come across a couple of boxes; they have Re-partition, F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot written next to them. When they appear, check them, and then make sure you do this: tap “Start“.
  7. You will see that the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ZMUAMI3 goes through the installation process, so let it end. You will, after the new firmware completes its flashing, notice that the I8558 begins to restart. After that, its touchscreen will display a “Pass” message.

This firmware is not compatible with your device. You can try the new ZCANB1 official firmware (if your device was made for the Chinese market).

However, this firmware will update your device to Android 4.1.2 instead of 4.2.2:
