Update Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160P to Android 4.1.2 XXMG2 Official Firmware

Galaxy Ace 2 I8160P is going to get very close to new and official firmware named XXMG2. As a result, your smartphone will be updated to none other than Android 4.1.2, the latest version launched this September for Czech Republic, Spain and Germany.

Your phone already had its release date, which happened in February last year. The new Android stock firmware can be flashed on your handset with Samsung’s KIES, too, especially since the KIES logo of this tool is activated. Another way to use if you want to upgrade your device is by using OTA (over the air) via the Software Update button located under Settings menu.

There are two disadvantages to updating your Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160P: the system partition is going to be erased and the root access, if the phone is rooted, will be revoked. But still, you have to consider that the important data and the internal/external SD cards on your smartphone will not be affected by the update.

Before you know the requirements you must follow to get your phone ready for the upgrade, you should first find out what sort of features this new firmware has: a new keyboard, group cast, pop up play, a fixed frame of 60 fps, all share, mini apps, Google Now, sync and connect email updates, triple buffering, extended vsync timing, automatic adjustment for the size of widgets, touch anticipation and free style widget.

Requirements

Below are the pre-requisites you must apply now:

  • the battery unit of your smartphone must go through a full charge if the battery levels show that it’s empty or almost empty;
  • turn on USB Debugging;
  • install from this page, the USB drivers compatible with your phone on your laptop;
  • disable the security software that runs on the laptop and the handset, too;
  • Windows must be the OS running on your laptop;
  • make backups (besides the regular one, you need to also create a full NANDroid backup, using these tips).Galaxy-Ace-2-GT-I8160P

Instructions

Leaving the requirements behind, you will now be introduced to the update steps. Follow all of them and your Galaxy Ace 2 I8160P will end up upgraded to the new Jelly Bean OS.

  1. First thing to do: download the Android 4.1.2 XXMG2 (the Czech Republic version from and , the Spain Movistar version from and the Germany version from ) together with Odin tool 3.07 from here on your notebook or computer. Next step will ask you to unzip each of the 2 packages with an appropriate tool.
  2. Now you should enter the device in Download Mode by doing the following: press and hold, simultaneously, Volume Down + Home + Power and soon a message of warning will come on-screen, so press Volume Up to end up in the aforementioned mode.
  3. Then go to the Odin and run it as Admin; now connect the Galaxy Ace 2 I8160P to the laptop. Only move on when you see a yellow ID:COM box and a message saying “Added!!“. But the two may not appear, so do this when you run into that problem: flash the USB drivers once more or make sure the USB port you use now is different to the one used before.
  4. Then do as follows: click on PDA, opt for a file with CODE in the name, tap Phone, choose a file with MODEM in the name, tap CSC, select a file with CSC in the name, click on PIT and now choose a file that should have a .pit extension.
  5. If done, your next task looks like this: check the boxes that have Auto Reboot, Re-partition and F . Reset Time written next to them. Click on “Start” next to begin the flashing of the new firmware on your handset.
  6. [sc name=”banner-jos”]When you notice the smartphone restarting, you should wait until the display has a “Pass” message across it; now’s the time to do this: unplug the GT-I8160P from the other device, open Settings on the handset, go to About Phone after that and enjoy the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXMG2 official firmware!

The new tool may leave a bitter taste after you test it out. To restore the phone’s previous ROM, you have to use the NANDroid backup you created not too long ago. The update process will, as a consequence, be revoked.
