Update Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Avatar ROM 2.4b

Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 (the AT&T version) shouldn’t have any problems getting an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Why? Because there is Avatar ROM to lend a most necessary helping hand in the matter.

This tool has received a lot pf praise so far thanks to its stability and numerous features.

Requirements

To be able to gain access to those, and to the operating system it helps install, you need to first use the factory unlocked version of the S2 I777, create a backup via this tutorial, turn USB debugging on, install USB Drivers for the smartphone on your laptop and charge the battery.

Important instructions

  1. This tutorial begins with step one: download and GApps from this page (you must choose the file labelled gapps-jb-20130301-signed archive) on the laptop that’s near you. Be careful to plug the smartphone to it an then copy + paste the two files to the memory card root of the Galaxy S2 SGH-I777.

  3. Power the handset off; now boot it into recovery mode by pressing + holding Volume Down, Volume Up and Power. After the phone’s display starts to flash, you should let go of Power. After the phone is in the recovery mode, you will have to operate a NANDroid backup of the device’s current ROM.
  4. Step four will need you to do the following: choose Factory reset/Wipe data. When done, opt for Yes; which works as confirmation of the fact that you need to perform a wipe task.

  7. Operate a confirmation of this and wait for the file to be flashed on the Galaxy S2 I777.
  8. Step eight will need you to repeat what you just did in steps six and seven so that the GApps zip file is also installed on the smartphone.
  9. Next up: make sure you are in the main recovery menu for the next task. Which sounds like this: opt for the system restarting. Have some patience for this procedure to happen, then get to know how your AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-I777 reacts with this new update on it.
