How to install AOKP custom ROM on Galaxy S3

  1. The update starts with the first instructions: download (file name: aokp_i9300_jb-mr1_milestone-2.zip) and then Google Apps from here on your notebook, plug your phone to the laptop and then have the two packages you downloaded on the PC transferred from its desktop to the phone’s SD card root.
  2. After that is over, make sure to do the following:
    – unplug the devices;
    – switch your smartphone off;
    – enter the same into Recovery Mode.
  3. Once the I9300 is booted into that mode, you should, if you haven’t already, make a full NANDroid backup. If your handset has TeamWin Recovery Project on it, then here is what to do to create that sort of backup:
    – press “Backup“;
    – opt for those parts of the phone’s system you want backed up;
    – confirm the action.
    But if your handset has ClockworkMod Recovery instead:
    – choose Backup & Restore;
    – wait for the NANDroid backup to be created.
  4. To factory reset your smartphone, you need to do as follows if your model sports the TWRP:
    – tap “Wipe“;
    – press “Factory reset“;
    – confirm the action.
    Should your phone sport the CWM Recovery, you need to:
    – opt for Factory Reset/Wipe Data;
    – confirm.
  5. In order to be able to flash the first ROM file on the Galaxy S3 I9300, you also need to follow different steps depending on the custom recovery image you work with. So, for the phone that has TeamWin Recovery Project:
    – tap “Install“;
    – locate AOKP M2 ROM zip;
    – the flashing needs to be confirmed by sliding a blue button to the right side.
    For the version which boasts the ClockworkMod Recovery, you have to:
    – choose Install zip from SD card;
    – opt for Choose zip from SD card;
    – look for the AOKP Milestone 2 zip;
    – flash it on the handset.
  6. [sc name=”banner-jos”]For the flashing of the Google Apps .zip archive, you should redo the actions you did when you installed the other file above. Make sure both files are on your smartphone. Then go back to the Recovery Mode and opt for the phone’s restarting option.

Then go to your Gmail account and open it. After you do that, enter your own details there. Wait for the welcome screen of the firmware to come on the display and then fully enjoy the presence of the AOKP Milestone 2 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 custom ROM on your Galaxy S3 I9300.

NOTE: The ROM with which your smartphone came can be enjoyed again if you aren’t a fan of the ROM you just flashed on it. How? Make good use of the files from the NANDroid we urged you to make and restore that ROM back on your device.
